Re: Black players protest

John Q. Public wrote:Do you think the president of any country - even Venezuela - should use such hyperbole?

No, but Donald Trump's stupidity is not the topic of this thread. There are already countless other threads for that.

Re: Why the gun industry doesn't like Republicans

I'm not letting the perfect be the enemy of the good. Just some factual reminders: 1. Non-suicide firearm homicides in the United States have decreased from about 14,000 or 15,000 per year a decade ago, to roughly 10,000 per year now. 2. In the last 36 months, there have been 82 shooting deaths in ...

Re: Black players protest

So American citizens should be forced to participate in politicized rituals. Of course not. But they also shouldn't demonstrate to force their political views to the offense of others at their workplace . As a caller said on a radio show this morning, these players make hundreds of millions of doll...

Re: Commentary: The unbearable smugness of the Press

If you see a lot of tolerance on this forum, you have better eyesight than I do. It is a constant exchange of insults and belittlement for each other's views.

Now that's what I call splitting hairs. I assume you're convinced he wouldn't have shot anyone else. Best case, further shootings were prevented. Worst case, we saved a bunch of money in legal fees and prison costs.

Vilepagan wrote:Perhaps, but I don't share the professor's simplistic worldview. Do you?

It's not a matter of whether one's worldview is simplistic or sophisticated. It's a matter of being receptive and tolerant of views other than one's own, and that's an almost extinct commodity on this forum.

Re: CIF ~ "A Message From The Commissioner" ~ {Transfers}

I believe the Semi Finals last year in Div. 1 was two privates and two publics. Not really their own division. Those publics in another division equals CIF champs. Yes, and those two publics in the semifinals beat three tough privates to get there - privates that may also have been CIF champions if...

Re: CIF ~ "A Message From The Commissioner" ~ {Transfers}

MD Dad, it just demonstrates the path MD has taken, and the entire league. So time for you guys to play in your own championship division. Cruiser is correct. Division 1 is becoming the "own championship division" you want to see created. It comprises 18 schools, and 11 of them are privat...

Re: Black players protest

If any of us repeatedly protested to espouse our political views at our place of employment, we'd likely be told to knock it off or we'd be gone. How is this any different?

Re: CIF ~ "A Message From The Commissioner" ~ {Transfers}

I cant' believe no one pick up on the LA Times tweet where MD lead CIF in transfer at 71. Oh my God, that is a truly shocking number...until you apply some perspective. Like the fact that Mater Dei is the largest private high school west of Chicago, and is coeducational. The number looks much less ...

Re: CIF ~ "A Message From The Commissioner" ~ {Transfers}

Those three states that are held up as examples of how to address this issue retained the same caveat we have in California -- the valid change of residence. If one state says a player must sit out the second half of the season and the playoffs unless he has made a valid change of residence , or two...

Re: Any more transfers to speak about?

I think we've been through this discussion at least a dozen times. There have been athletic transfers as long as there have been high school sports. However, the first school that really started to benefit from large numbers of transfers was Orange Lutheran in the early 2000's, and they did it by in...

Re: Kim Jong Un to Meet with Trump!

After reading that letter, I came away with two impressions: (1) I was surprised that it was written in Trump-ese rather than the high-level diplomatic language typically used for such communications, and (2) I don't understand why a grown ass man and the most powerful person in the world felt the n...

Re: OC Buckeye camp at Servite

That proved to be true. Except that it didn't. After a sub-.500 season and missing the playoffs for the only time in three decades, Mater Dei was back in the CIF finals the following year...and the year after that, and all long before they became the Rancho Cathedral Dei 4-County All-Stars. That's ...

Re: 3 of the 4 Press-Telegram reporters strike out on their own

The thick ass newspaper and pot of coffee has been replaced by a thin ass tablet and a pot of coffee. That's the unfortunate truth, but it hasn't been for the better. Ever try wrapping your china in an iPad when you're packing to move, or spreading your iPad under your car when you're changing the ...

I don't need to re-read the 4th Amendment I'm quite familiar with its protections against unreasonable searches or seizures...no mention of a right to privacy however. If you want to play games with semantics, I'm really not interested. Random, unannounced searches without warrants or probable caus...
