Index does mean something but it's not temperature like you incorrectly reported. And looking back, if it WAS 165 degrees, I think that would be the number one news topic throughout the world and not because global warming is du jour, but because it would have smashed
the previous record. (Also, you probably should have known better that 165 degrees was off the charts wrong).
I wouldn't be surprised if at that temperature, they'd have major problems that would also be newsworthy. Spontaneous combustion seems like a possibility (I don't know what temperature is conducive to spontaneous combustion so my hunch could be wrong...).
You made the classic move (or suggestion) that many journalists, MSM sources, and people do when it's hot: "see, global warming" and "climate change". When its cold, these same people say either: "weather" or "polar vortexian" climate change. I get it. Our side does the same thing with cold spells, (but obviously not with hot spells).
