PROCTOR, Vt. - A fun family event goes wrong in Proctor.
Thousands flocked to Wilson Castle to hunt for about 25,000 Easter eggs. But an altercation ended the day earlier than planned -- with pepper spray being deployed and one person taken into custody.
Vermont State Police and deputies from the Rutland Sheriff's Department were called to the scene where many had become irritated by the long lines and lack of organization. Witnesses say a parent began making loud threats, demanding a refund, and refused to calm down after being asked by an officer. One volunteer -- who witnesses the incident-- says things escalated quickly.
"Saw a lot of commotion, a lot of cursing and swearing, and I just came down to see what was going on, and the guy got belligerent with a cop, cop said okay you're under arrest, and the guy got even more belligerent, took off running and the cop chased him," said Keith Hier, Event Volunteer.
