Free Speech?

Postby Professor Fate » Wed Feb 01, 2017 11:16 pm

Once again, the left has shown that free speech only applies to people who agree with them. A scheduled speech by conservative Milo Yiannopolous, was canceled in the wake of violent protests at the supposed birthplace of the "Free Speech Movement" of the 60's. Rocks were thrown, fires were started by the leftists, after attempts by students and faculty members to get the university to cancel the speech (actions that by themselves were anti-free speech) were unsuccessful.

So they resorted to violence to prohibit free speech by those who don't agree with their point of view.

Pathetic, disgusting, hypocritical behavior by the left.

There's that "left" guy again. I swear he's as bad as "some Republicans," "some GOPers" and "many Trump supporters". Except I don't get as many complaints when people talk about him.

I guess they weren't interested in what he had to say.

The article I read stated they were masked agitators hmmm.......I hope you're not assuming they were both leftists or even students. This is right out of the anarchists cookbook.
I'm not saying you're stupid. I'm saying you have bad luck when it comes to thinking.

They warned us if more Americans voted for Hillary Clinton we'd get historic corruption in Washington. They were right.

I can understand why you guys are trying to blame others. I agree with the Professor that it is pathetic, disgusting, and hypocritical behavior. Do you guys concur, or do you think this is acceptable. BTW, it was reported that teachers and Professors were openly involved in this event.

No, that was done by anarchists from outside the campus and not associated with the students protesting.

More false facts from the media. Liberals are too milquetoast to engage in that type of activity.

They're too busy drinking their lattes at Starbucks.

Yet the students and faculty members were trying to get the event arranged and sponsored by the Young Republicans, a sanctioned club on campus cancelled. Hence the title of this thread, Free Speech?

What do you think of this?

How do you that blame 'leftists' for the carnage at this riot explain that millions around the country of every race and background pulled off the largest protest to date without one incident?

These people that cause damage are opportunist, nothing more.

Can't legitimately lump all liberals in with violent extremists any more than you can on the far right...unless they stand around and watch those anarchists or whatever they're called, and / or do nothing to stop it.

Do you agree that a group has a legitimate right to stop someone from speaking?

They have a right to call for a stop, they don't have the right to physically stop him or resort to violence.

What is really disconcerting is that there are some Republican who back this guy. He's almost as disgusting as Richard Spencer.

How does that foot with your support of the 1st Amendment? Or as an educator the obligation to encourage differing ideas whether or not you agree with them...especially at the university level?

People have the right to protest. That's free speech as well.

Protesting...freedom of speech? Shouldn't you educators be encouraging it?

I do. Protests are free speech. Counterprotesting is also free speech.
