Servite Soccer - Trinity League Championship Program

Postby sgthartman » Fri Feb 10, 2017 8:14 am

Congratulations in order for Servite Head Coach Jon Spencer and his championship soccer program. Varsity clinched its 4TH CONSECUTIVE Trinity League Title, with JV and F/S also claiming titles at their respective levels. In his five year's as HC, Spencer has led the Friars Varsity to an overall record of 88-17-22 and a remarkable 37-5-8 record in the Trinity League! Well done. =D>

Huh! - how did Servite lose in a shootout to a team with a season losing record in the
FIRST round?

Servite was down this season, but still managed to eke out their 4th consecutive Trinity League Title, thanks to Coach Spencer. But I didn't think they would sail through the playoffs.

All three Trinity League teams lost in the first round.

Servite 1 Jordan 1 Jordan advances on PKs
Mission Viejo 2 SMCHS 1
Tesoro 2 Bosco 1

It has been a trying year for Coach Spencer. Top-heavy with the least talented group of seniors he's had since he's been at the helm, dissension, player selfishness, and a top assistant who didn't sit well with this year's team added up to a relatively difficult season. Add in the fact that their top scorer selfishly left the team the week before the first playoff game and it was the perfect storm for an early exit. They did well to finish the regular season as well as they did. Five solid juniors from this year's varsity and a good group of underclassmen should help them find greater success next season.

Wow, interesting; I know they were highly ranked in a lot of the polls before the playoffs. Why would the top scorer quit the team before the playoffs, seems weird,IMO; did he go to his club team or had a
falling out in some manner? In any case, you never know....
