Bergen Catholic vs. Mater Dei

Postby Playthegame » Tue Sep 12, 2017 4:50 pm

I thought this might be one of MD's tougher games given that Greg Toal is now there bringing his Iron Man pedigree from Don Bosco Prep but look for MD to roll up another impressive win on Saturday.

Monarchs look pretty unstoppable...

Bergen Catholic was upset last week 21-14 by a team from Pennsylvania, a team they were expected to handle easily. Having said that, they are a squad loaded with talented athletes and will be, I'm sure, fired up to redeem themselves after a less than stellar effort last week. This should be a good game and a challenging one for MD who will probably be at full strength for the first time this year.

Their opponent next week (St. Mary) also suffered a shock loss last week...either could be a trap game for MD if they let down their guard...

St Marys lost their starting QB to injury and struggled to move the ball without him. Bergen's QB is athletic and has a strong arm. Their two Rb's are legit D-1 kids and the rest of the team is peppered with quality football kids on both sides of the ball. And, as Playthegame mentioned, the coaching staff, not just Toal, has an impressive resume.

Read some reports and watched video of Bergen's games...they look solid, but not particularly big or fast. The narrative is they got "trapped" last week looking ahead to MD...I have no doubt they'll come ready to play on Saturday, should be a good game

I posted earlier the score was 21-14, but the actual score was apparently 27-21. Not that it particularly matters I suppose.

MD Faithful just face the facts your schedule is still soft and not worth the talk.
Gorman= No Tate and lost a bunch of kids who transferred out. Rollo ducked Gorman for years, why play now? Classic Bob Johnson move.
Bergen= lost a few kids who transferred out and are over rated. MD by 28
St. Marys= Bosco had a running clock on them last year in third quarter. MD by 42

MD is legit and is best team in So. Cal but lets be real they still didn't schedule anyone worth anything to get all excited for. They will boat race Bergen and St. Marys won't even be close.

What I would worry about is that CDM has 95 freshman and you have 50, lots of full paying customers staying in the Newport bubble :eh?: :eh?: Not good from a administration position.

Those sissies. I'll bet they're trying to get out of the Trinity League as well. Good catch Al, all that program does is run and hide...

Schedule the Steelers and the Packers and and there will be always a few who will call it weak schedule.
Pissy groaning babies will never be satisfied. Remember these opponents were scheduled months before their unfortunate losses.

Just an observation MD faithful, no need to get butt hurt. Again there is not a team in California that is going to beat MD. They should walk through playoffs and DLS.

And a keen observation at that. Look forward to any other well thought out observations on local teams you may have. Keep up the good work...

MD Schedule soft and not worth the talk? Its worth a lot more than OLU, SM, Servite and JSerra schedule.

MD Schedule was one of the tougher preseasons going into the season, just so happen two of the tougher teams lost games they were favored. OLU, SM, Servite and JSerras schedule was already weak going into the preseason.

And MD did not duck playing Gorman previous to this year. I think MD Dad can fill you in more on why it didn't happen.

Before the season started MD had what was considered one of the toughest schedules in the country. Nobody can control that both Bergen Catholic and St Marys were upset this past weekend.

Al, I'm grateful we have you to point out to us when our discussions are "not worth the talk".

First, I don't think any "MD Faithful" have started any threads about the school's strength of schedule, and they have rarely commented on it. So maybe your advice should be directed at those that do.

Second, here's the preleague strength of schedules for the county's 15 top teams:

52.2 - Mater Dei
39.5 - Orange Lutheran
38.1 - JSerra
37.4 - Mission Viejo
35.7 - Santa Margarita
35.0 - Edison
32.3 - La Habra
31.8 - Servite
31.3 - Los Alamitos
30.8 - San Juan Hills
26.4 - San Clemente
20.8 - Corona del Mar
19.1 - Capo Valley
11.1 - Villa Park
0.1 - Pacifica

If you don't think Mater Dei's schedule is "worth the talk", please advise as to which school's is. Or should we just shut down the board until you tell us it's time to reopen it again because a subject "worth the talk" has arrived?
