"The Lid is Off"! ~ LA Times {Transfers}

Postby SK80 » Thu Jan 11, 2018 10:31 am

Well nothing new to any of us but many around the communities of the southland have always wondered, rumored, kept secrets, on the down low. Now just be proud of the environment we have created!

Todays LA TIMES http://www.latimes.com/sports/highschoo ... story.html

Stars realigning under CIF rule change that allows students to switch schools for athletic reasons

"The CIF has waved the white flag of surrender when it comes to transfers. Its only deterrent is a monthlong sit-out period for those who switch schools without moving. The CIF retreat was sold to member schools as a way to reduce the growing legal costs associated with challenges to its transfer policies. And guess which school was involved in a key lawsuit that eventually led to CIF changes? Yes, Mater Dei." ~ Eric Sondheimer

Just think of the kids on the bench, moving down the depth chart. What they could do at their local school would be a game changer to some under looked talent. Go get some minutes at your local HS and have Mom and Dad donate their tuition saving to your new program.

Sondy really exposing Mater Dei. Interesting how Bosco escaped his wrath. Can’t wait to see MDDad’s response to this.

This only benifits privates bc if you transfer to a public school you would have to move to be in the district. Now besides having the ability to have kids from all over southern CA you also get the benefit of being able to transfer without moving at private school.

For at least the umpteenth time, this is absolutely untrue. Please read sections 207 and 208 of the CIF-SS Blue Book before repeating fallacies like this.

When a family transfers into a private school, they must make a bona fide change of residence out of the attendance area of the public school in which they live and into the attendance area of another public school. If they don't do that, the athlete must sit out the first 30 days of his sport's season.

Well, obviously we have giant butterflies in CA. They's climbin' in your windows, They's snatchin' your people up, tryin' to steal 'em. So y'all need to hide your kids, hide your stars, and hide your coaches cause they're grabin' everybody out here.

I brought this up a couple years back, so it has already been told like it is.
No Woodward and Bernstein Trophy here.
Not to mention it may have saved a young man's life.

Hmm, it is interesting that Bosco wasn't named in the article also, but Bosco is in LA county,
Sondheimer is a LA county guy through and through, rumors have it that he does not care
for MD in the first place or other privates for that matter and it's not a definite 30 days
you sit out if the family does not move, it's worked out that whatever sport it is, the
student athlete misses one half of the number of days of the sport's regular season time frame,
usually a little longer than thirty days, fyi

..that is why in FB at least, transfers that did not move, miss the first five games of the ten
game regular season.

Does the hatred for MD go so deep that the "reporter" doesn't have the least bit of curiosity as to how BOSCO went from a basic doormat in the Trinity league ( 3rd place at best ) to killing everyone???
Don't tell me the guy from Trabuco Hills is the next Nick Saben!!!
Bosco's success can be traced to the simultaneous decline in LB Polys performance. Don't tell me Bosco just went around Bellflower taking neighborhood kids to have their amazing run!!
They raided the Long Beach area and anywhere else they could to get talent!!!
I don't care that Bosco and MV recruits, let them all do it, just don't single out MD
The "reporter" is just lacking curiosity OR worse yet knows the truth and refuses to report it, I fear it is the latter!!!

Sondheimer is putting the blame where it belongs...on the Mater Dei lawsuit (filed by the Diocese on Mater Dei's behalf). That lawsuit was completed in Nov. 2012.

Bosco, the following season, was just the first to take advantage of the changes that Mater Dei caused. And now Mater Dei has caught and passed Bosco.

Yes they have to sit out 5 games. Please tell me how it is possible to transfer to a different public school and just sit out 5 games? It's not be they have to move to the new schools district. A kid from Lakewood high could not transfer to MV and just sit out 5 games. Why bc he would have to move to the MV district. If he transfered to MD and didn't move he could sit out 5 games. Another advantage example Kid in Compton wants to transfer to MD he could move to the apt next door and avoid sitting 5 games that's a big difference than having to move into the expensive MV district.

With all due respect, it's clear you didn't read either my post or the Blue Book sections I cited. If a family lives in Compton, let's assume he lives in the attendance area for Compton High School. He can't move into the apartment next door and be eligible, because he would still be in the same public high school's attendance area. He and his family must move into the attendance area of another public high school in order to gain immediate eligibility at any private school.

Wait, LA Times is biased? Sacre Bleu!

Not the Times per se, but to anyone who is familiar with him, Sondeheimer has long been an unabashed Mater Dei critic. You see it in his "articles" and practically every day in his twitter feed. I say "articles" because the piece cited above that some would like to spin as reporting is obviously an editorial.

He's entitled to his opinion like everyone else, but that's all it is...an opinion. And not a very objective one at that.

.for some reason, Sondheimer has never liked Mater Dei and like I said before private schools
in general, ESPECIALLY if not in LA county, but he writes for the LA Times so it's pretty much
a given where his loyalties are, like Omar posted; just read his biased tweets, he doesn't
pretend to hide it.

Eric Sondheimer doesn't need curiosity to understand what caused the transformation at Bosco. They hired a charismatic, energetic young coach who was willing to push the envelope in marketing his alma mater, and he attracted a like-minded staff. If there was one trigger for the rise, it was the implosion of the Lakewood program and the movement of several of their best players to Bosco. That started the ball rolling, and it hasn't slowed down since.

Sondheimer knows all that. As Omar points out, he has been generally anti-private school, and specfically anti-Mater Dei, for at least 15 or 20 years. All of which makes him a bit of a hypocrite, since it's always Coach Rollinson whom he calls first when he needs a coach's opinion or a catchy quote. I understand he's a relic in a dying profession, but he makes it hard to by sympathetic.
