New Servite Offensive Coordinator

Postby Stugotz » Fri Mar 30, 2018 8:41 am

Troy Thomas and Servite are coming out swinging with the announcement of new Offensive Coordinator Darnell Arceneaux. The former Utah QB and Head Coach from St Louis High School (Hawaii) has mentored many top quarterbacks, including Marcus Mariota and Tua Tagovailoa (Alabama). This hire will no doubt send shockwaves through the community and make Servite a destination for top quarterbacks and skill position players. His offenses are notoriously explosive, his quarterbacks athletic and well taught. A great hire.

This is just the beginning.

Nice hire by the TT and the Servite admin. Arceneaux has one hell of resume having coached at Hawaii high school football powerhouse St. Louis. Both Mariota and Tagovailoa are hard playing, high character athletes. This bodes well for the school over on W La Palma. =D>

He likes to spread the field, throw to RBs...Was OC at Oxy the last few years. QB should be happy.

Every major skill player departed the program. Its all linemen and that's about it. Servite is literally starting over from scratch. The skill players right now are any freshmen from last year that didn't leave, the JV players that probably didn't get much in the way of playing time, and a few kids that transferred in. That's all Thomas has to work with.

Certainly the timing would seem right for transfers who have left to return. At the very least, pause for thought for them and their parents. I’d imagine that social media, texts, etc are blowing up right about now. How is my new school? Am I happy? Where do I belong? What do I want to be part of? Something great is cooking at Servite. That’s becoming increasingly clear. It would be so very cool to be a part of it. But it will take courage and commitment.

Well it’s going to take a while to re-build, but it appears Servite is serious about football again. Bosco and MD have upped the ante and Servite is basically stuck in the Trinity League and D1 so it’s either get killed every year (which kills School spirit and has other negative effects) or get serious and try to compete and win. There’s very little choice for the Trinity teams since the rating system will probably keep them in D1 unless they completely tank for 2 years like NBA teams do while trying to get the top picks in next year’s draft.

Was he just recently at OXY when they have to end their schedule with 4 games left because the effectively ran out of players?
So he went from a power house program in Hawaii ( kind of an Oxymoron ) to a school who runs out of players and can't finish a season, sounds like Servite is a perfect fit!

He seems to be a good hire, re: his resume; he was the OC at OXY but he is coming?, from a team with a nine game schedule last season, six were cancelled and the other three, they lost, 61-6, 72-13 and 37-0.
Correction, my mistake, he does not appear on the 2017 coach list but no OC is listed, maybe
the HC is the OC? Where did he coach last, anyone?

FWIW, according to the Servite Blog "In 2010 he returned to Saint Louis as the head coach and assistant athletic director...He led that 2010 team to the State Championships and a 12-1 record and earned Hawaii’s Coach of the Year awards from MaxPreps and the IL."...checked with Maxpreps itself and they have John Hao as head coach from 2008-2011... :eh?:

MaxPreps makes mistakes. I remember arguing with Luca about whether Troy Thomas was Servite's HC in 2004. He wasn't. Larry Toner was the Head Coach in 2004. But, even today, MaxPreps shows Thomas as Servite's 2004 HC.

Well, obviously we have giant butterflies in CA. They's climbin' in your windows, They's snatchin' your people up, tryin' to steal 'em. So y'all need to hide your kids, hide your stars, and hide your coaches cause they're grabin' everybody out here.

Apparently he left the OXY program in August before the start of the 2017 season per
the school's website magazine, no biggie, just curious...

Left to coach his son Cole in basketball (asst coach) during his senior season at Punahou HS in Honolulu. They won the Hawaii state title last month, with Cole as a captain. Darnell was an all state basketball guard (and football QB) at Punahou archrival St. Louis HS in the 90s.

No worries, Norco and Villa Park are on the schedule. Well, at least Norco.

Awesome news. Make Servite Great Again. From the record and mediocrity of the past few years, Servite has not spent much capital on the football program. The President of Servite is out of the office, now they can. Servite must have a lot of money beyond petty cash saved for football! The Hawaii hire is good beyond any question. Can't wait to see what will come next. Rebuilding is going to cost, do it while you have it! Do what you can while the cat is out of the office! It's free wheeling and dealing making.

Yes! They haven’t spent money on it since TT left. Two quick and cheap hires, alumni coaches, all subpar. Yes, they saved money. When you don’t spend money it is saved. And the program shows the savings. There must be a pretty good savings.
