2018 "AIRSTRIKE" Passing Tournament

Postby SK80 » Wed May 16, 2018 6:35 am

Seems like there are more and more of these..... :eh?:

Will Edison get revenge this week on CDM? Or does Sondheimers prediction play out.....

Airstrike used to be THE SoCal offseason passing tournament. All the big names. Bigger than Edison Battle at the Beach.

Now its essentially a local scrum, plus Narbonne and Diamond Ranch.

Why did this die? Sad.

Its always been the battle at the beach, Edison Tourney. Airstrike is weak little tourney. Los Al had a better roster, last weekend. Look for Narbonne to win the Airstrike, VP, SC, CDM to follow. There is another little tourney out at Charter Oak this weekend too.

False. Until about 2013 or 14, Airstrike drew every big name school that Edison does now and more, was as or more competitive, better organized, and drew more of a crowd.

Actually, forget Edison, Airstrike was one of the best summer passing tournaments -- feat. actual HS teams -- in the COUNTRY. Shoot, it was officially sponsored by Nike!! The same guys who now run The Opening for Nike used to help run Airstrike. Had concessions, clear and publicized organization, even had freaking apparel sales. Was damn near like a fall game atmosphere. Keyshawn and Willie McGinest were regularly there observing kids they knew or coached. There were double digit guys drafted into the League in 2017 and 2018 who played in the 2012/2013 Airstrike tourneys. It was FAR from a "little tourney" then, regardless of what it has devolved into now.

Like I said, not sure what happened to it, but sad. Was great consistent competition throughout the day, you could get a decent feel for what a team needed to work on. And then you could grab some food after, swing by the Harbor or Doheny.

The Airstrike tournament was as good or slightly better than the Battle at the Beach, but only for about three years. Then it started to decline to the sad state where it is now, and Edison reclaimed the title they held for many years as probably the most loaded summer tournament in Southern California.

I don't know if there is truth this claim or not. But the rumor was that Dana Hills and other public schools were having some of their players being "persuaded" to transfer to some of the private schools by some of the boosters from those schools, so they stopped inviting some of the big private programs.

Air Strike was a big-time, super competitive tournament and had most of the same teams, but Battle at the Beach has always been the considered the premier passing tournament in SoCal and it has endured the test of time.

HTL - it's not a bad lineup of public schools.

Ha. If anything it's more like Dana Hills was having two of their best prospects in decades COUGH COUGH The Schooler Bros HACK WHEEZE heavily recruited away by the "boosters" at Trabuco Hills and Mission Viejo.

The Dana Point area has always been a hotbed recruiting ground for the likes of Servite, MD, Bosco, O Lu, even the LA privates. I mean, surf and skate skills of 5'7" longhairs translate to big time gridiron production very naturally, right??

Just did some further reasearch: apparently the private school boosters were also leaving their yachts parked in DP Harbor for the ENTIRE weekend, even after hosting boat parties for the best players of the poor public schools. Without permit extensions or proper mooring. Beyond obnoxious. Now I get it.

Must not have been true. Private school boosters/supporters never try to persuade public school kids to go to their schools as they are riddled with 5'7" longhairs. As I understand it, other public schools were complaining to the Dana Hills organizers.

You can bet there is some deals going on behind the scenes at these tourney's where players are getting recruited by other coaches, boosters, players, etc., when lunch time hits or breaks in between games, watch the conversations and you will see the paperless transactions being made. Big names at the Edison tourney. I might head down to the airstrike and check out this WR Darren Jones at Diamond Ranch, see if anyone can get this kid the ball? Is he the only target?
Will he be able to handle the Narbonne D? If he's like Randy Moss, it will be no problem.

I thought the same as well at first glance. In all honesty you have no privates coming it will appear to be weakened. Keeping it real, many of the best skilled position players are at the privates. That said there is plenty of talent, and kids that will be playing NCAA D1 ball here at "Airstrike".

WR Darren Jones is 6'8" and the #24 ranked class of 2019 recruit according to 247sport. I also think Narbonne is a beyond legit squad. H*ll they are CIF and State Champs and finished in the top 10 in California. You also have here 3 of the OC publics that are among the best in Edison, SC & CDM. Can't wait to see SC vs CDM in the opening round!

Oh and by the way if a 2019 #24 ranked recruit is worth a see, how about a 2020 #20 ranked WR named John Humphries whom if you missed it just got an offer from Stanford as a SOPHOMORE =D> That makes 5 PAC-12 offers for the sophomore receiver.

Well...., he doesn't need the recognition and he is on a good team with a great sophomore class... Garbers at QB, Mark Redman 6'6 250 lbs TE and MD transfer Bradley Schlom at the other WR, CDM looks poised to have a very high profile pass attack.

By the way any MD peeps know much about the transfer kid Schlom?

Cdm Villa Park at 1130

KJ Costello is doing a great job of recruiting .
Who won the Airstrike? Couldnt make it yesterday. Decided to go check out the Charter Oak tourney where Alemany beat Calabasas in the Final. Final 4 were, Alemany, Calabassas, Charter Oak, La Habra.
Johnny Wilson WR from Calabassas was a specimen, you can see Curtis Conway has really been sharing his knowledge with those players. It was a interesting matchup as Calbassas old head coach Casey Clausen is now the new head coach at Alemany. Chris Claiborn Is Calabassas head coach.
Building toward Edison and Battle of the Beach.
