Re: South Coast and Trinity League Track this Friday Night

FWIW, Capo and Tesoro are not in the SCL. A few of the SCL schools have zero interest in doing anything that would help promote the Trinity and so likely weren't going to participate (MV, ET and Aliso are the 3 missing there...)

Re: Coaching changes?

Hmmm. Been on staff with several coaches who had sons on the team. Haven't seen what you are talking about here. Its actually been a great experience (and those coaches have had the whole range of kids: some outstanding athletes, some who were terrible). Looking forward to coaching my sons down the ...

Re: Super Conferences

"The powers that be" are the county principals. The CIF office has almost zero to do with leagues. Even when a school appeals its placement, CIF can advise the local area to review what is proposed, but can't make the principals change their mind. Trust me, even when a school is clearly misplaced, i...

Re: Super Conferences

I would also add that conferences make rivalries very difficult. When most of your students/athletes can't name the teams in their league because each sport is different, you have a problem.

Re: Super Conferences

I understand you put district/city schools together for convenience, but in most cases its a poor fit. Your middle group there that includes Edison and Westminster for example. Westminster lost by an average of 50 points a game last year to schools in d8 and below. There is no way that they, OV, Est...

Re: Coaching changes?

Not surprised-always thought that SJH would be a job coaches would want. Lots of new housing being built in their attendance area. Great setting to play in. Now if the school would have named their teams the "Trashmen" they would then play their home games in "The Dump" and get national attention a...

Re: CIF/ Releaguing 2020...

At the last releaguing cycle the concept of football only leagues was floated and the Golden West/Sunset mixed a bit to create the football only version of the GWL which includes Laguna Beach and Marina. It has worked out fairly well as the 8 teams in the new GWL have been very competitive. One coul...

Re: San Clemente is out of the playoffs

The conjecture and finger pointing here is pretty funny and not shockingly, wide of the mark. With the way CIF works it requires its members to have a sense of ethics in order to self report and not just look the other way. Those who are willing to ignore the wrongdoings get away with whatever, whil...

Re: New Coaches Thread 2019

Districts and schools have made it work in the past for coaches being able to bring in years of service. I know Capo got burned by that many years ago when Blankenship came in and left after a couple years. I had heard from a pretty good source that they weren't getting applicants, which was a bit o...

Re: New Coaches Thread 2019

He's not a teacher and the facilities at Mesa are pretty good. Brand new stadium and more field space than most schools.

Capo is still sitting without a coach. That is still amazing to me.

Re: Mission Viejo Football Pipeline

I believe the Cowboys don't exist anymore.

I think there is a bit of a difference between bringing in a youth coach on your staff (something coaches have tried with very mixed results for years) and starting your own Youth team where you and staff are on the board

Re: Mission Viejo Football Pipeline

Can't believe that this is where we are with HS football these days, but really have to wonder about the logos/trademarks that have to be being violated here!

And they have the gaul to complain that we were "spying" on their youth camp!

Re: New Coaches Thread 2019

Our head coach is the old man of our district since he has finished 3 seasons here. 4 OC jobs still unfilled at this point I think. Capo, Esperanza, SM and Mesa. The demands on coaches have really changed over the last decade. There was a time not long ago when you worked during the season and then ...

Re: Did the creation of the Trinity League help cause some of the problems plaguing HS sports?

Fair enough. However I don't think the stadium thing is as big a deal as you might. And I would argue that the arms race in the Trinity has gone way beyond football. SM certainly has tried to do everything it can to attract kids from South County but is likely at a bit of a disadvantage given its lo...

Re: Did the creation of the Trinity League help cause some of the problems plaguing HS sports?

Buck I disagree. The other schools in the Trinity at one time or the other over the past decade have all been a part of what is going on. Before Bosco was what it is today, Servite won with kids from all down the freeway, SM has been putting lots of money into its facilities and firing coaches, JSer...

Re: Did the creation of the Trinity League help cause some of the problems plaguing HS sports?

And none of this is to say that there aren't a myriad of other factors contributing to the changes. Just that the creation of the Trinity may have played a role, and I think, a large one.
