Re: Mater Dei Basketball National Champs

Templar is correct... CIF allows a maximum number of games played, plus all CIF teams are not allowed to play against Academy type teams such as Monteverde, Oak Hill, Findlay, etc...This was a fairly new rule put in place a few years back, and actually Rainer Beach in Seattle had to apply and be gra...

Re: Mater Dei Basketball National Champs

I stand corrected.. The fact remains that Monteverde lost on the court and that should factor into the other polls for a national championship. The Monarchs beat five eventual state champions and went 9-0 against teams that played for a state title.

Re: Mater Dei Basketball National Champs

Not to mention that Monteverde's loss on the court was to a team that was beat by Whitney Young.. A team that MD beat.

Re: Where are the Coach Derrick Taylor haters now???

I have no problem speaking up and saying Taylor cant coach... For the amount of talent he has had come through his programs both at Taft and Bosco they should be winning. He has a very hard time makling in game adjustments and cant win the truely "BIG" game when he has to. Taylor even said on a FoxS...

Re: Mater Dei Wins Fourth Consecutive Boys Basketball Title

Dont forget about Weyand....(red headed kid)
The kid is only a freshman and played well every chance he got. He didnt play a ton of minutes in CIF but played a well enough against Rabb in the State Title game while being undersized. He will be very good...

Re: Sizing up the race for HS basketball's National Champion

That is true Delo... If Poly wins out Div 1AA they can indeed be placed in the State Open division as it is a new draw. Although keep in mind some teams that have a loss from the CIF Open Division can also be placed in the State Open division so they can still get snubbed. I really think there was s...

Guess we get to find out what Taylor & Co. are made of now that they are playing in The Open..
My guess is they will be set on the opposite side of the bracket from MD. No more cupcake runs for Bosco BB...

Re: Sizing up the race for HS basketball's National Champion

Yes.. CIF has a Open division that can be up to 16 teams. It is a double elimination bracket and as long as you win your first game you can be placed in the State tourney bracket as well.
State is once again and Open division.
To win both you have to beat the best of the best 2X

Re: Unexpected Times for Bosco

I would put money on the fact that Bosco Varsity will never beat MD as long as Taylor is coaching at Bosco and McKnight is coaching at MD.
Fun trivia question - How many wins does Derrick Taylor have against MD in his coaching career?? go ahead and include Taft in there as well...

I dont know about that, but he may have "big fish, small pond" syndrome. I know a few "east coast" families that have come out here thinking their kid was the best thing since sliced bread becuase he dominated in some small town back east, especially in basketball. Then they get thrown to the wolves...

Re: Sizing up the race for HS basketball's National Champion

Even more so this year, than in years past winning CIF in the Open division would be a state championship any place else... If MD were to win a Open Division CIF title and and Open Division State Title it would be a truly amazing accomplishment. If that were to happen, where MD may lose out on the m...

A transfer, is a transfer, is a transfer...
It doesnt matter or make you, holier than thou if you accept a kid after his freshman year or after his junior. Your school still accpets transfers.
That is the bottom line.

Re: Where did Billy Preston enroll?

BB Bos.... How much talent does Taylor have to bring in to win? Dorsey may stay, but something is obviously going on with him, whether is academics or coach/parent issues. Normally with kids that Taylor brings in and it goes this route, history says the kid leaves. Lets face it Taylor is not a good ...

Re: Where did Billy Preston enroll?

The blame is on the kids and parents but as the coach that brought them in I also feel he has responsibility to monitor his players grades. Taylor continually makes promises to kids and their families about playing time, college scholies, and making them a star, but he cant coach and he has a big pr...

Re: Where did Billy Preston enroll?

There was talk of Preston enrolling in MD - Keep in mind he was never enrolled at MD in the first place, he only played summer ball and left before the school year to enroll at Bosco. Every indication was that both moves were academically motivated. 1) He had to take some summer classes to enroll at...
