Re: McKnight Lets one Get Away

Mater Dei has a fairly young team this year, with the exception of Cage and Stout they are the only seniors of the regular 10 rotation. So the rest of the underclassmen are getting use to playing as a team, they do make a lot of youthful mistakes but they have been able to put together a very respec...

Re: HSFB Season Is Over

Basketball is a pretty big deal here in Orange County. WE boast one of the top teams in the United States year in and out. Each year many OC BB teams fare very well in the CIF section playoffs. Attendance at games is pretty decent and there are a lot of very good players who call the OC their home. ...

Re: Bosco vs. MD dialogue

Mater Dei has the potential to beat Bosco but they must overcome a number of flaws to hang with the Braves. MD's defense has to tighten up. They have shown their secondary is suspect when facing a decent passing team. The tackling has to get better, against OLU they had the quarterback and running b...

Re: MD Olu

Mater Dei's offense is still suspect. The two OLU scores were basically against the MD offense not the defense. They still have issues taking care of the ball. The play calling although seemed to work is still unimaginative. Just OLU did not have the defense to stop MD. As has been witnessed MD's of...

Re: Santa Margarita 14, Mater Dei 19

By the time league starts most Trinity league teams have figured out the other teams strengths and weakness. Mater Dei's strength has been it's defense, the only weakness it has shown has been it is vulnerable to short outside passing. The weakness is their offense has been inconsistent and predicab...

As far as keeping their cool when the world around them is on the attack and consistent creativity, it's a toss up between Luca and MDDAD. Also old holdovers from the studentsports days. For loyalty to a team no mater what, EDAC and Lionhunter. Most sincere, Pattywanawack. Most outrageous always goi...

Re: MD State Track & Field Champs

I can agree that in Track and Field you can have a lot of rivalries amongst athletes, but over all there is a lot of comradeship and respect. I can remember back in the mid 60's I was running the mile at a duel meet at St. John Bosco and their coach heard I was on track to set a school record, he ra...

Re: MD State Track & Field Champs

Track and Field, has always been an individual sport. With the exception of the relays, it's all about individual effort, since we have over the years included team scoring , which can identify the quality of a program. In many years teams did not win an event, but had enough individuals place that ...

Congratulations Patty, I'm glad to see that you got your college degree and that you have such a mature perspective on life. Keep up the hard work, don't be afraid to try the unknown and you will succeed the rest of your days.

Re: MD and OLU win CIF Track titles

Watching the video of Godin's win in the 100, he was not pushed, he seemed too win with about 5 to 6 yeards of daylight between he and the closest sprinter. Maybe he can get that state record in the Masters. His style reminds me of Fred Kuller, one of the best sprinters of the late 60's at Santiago ...

Mater Dei offered bus service for students in the 50's, 60's and 70's. They had school buses bring kids from the south county , then stopped the service in the late 70's.

Re: Athletic Scholarships

The greatest misunderstood element of high school students and parents is the cost of a college education. The price tag to a 4 year degree has increased greater than any other commodity today. Even those with a full academic scholarship have many other bills to pay. College loans are one of the mai...

Re: Where are the Coach Derrick Taylor haters now???

I have had the opportunity over the years to watch many of the great high school basketball teams and coaches in country. Having also coached myself for 16 years I have a pretty good idea what it takes to be a solid coach and what constitutes a great coach. I think that Derrick Taylor is a competent...

Re: Mater Dei Wins Fourth Consecutive Boys Basketball Title

You don't replace a player like Stanley. His type only comes along once in a while. You look over all of your talent and set forth a plan to utilize their ability with the plans you know can work. The next "star" for Md is right there, MJ Cage, along with Rex and Lavette Parker you've got a pretty g...

Congratulations to the Mater Dei Boys Basketball team and Gary McKnight, winning their fourth consecutive Stae Basketball Title. Their 11th over all State Crown, going 35 and 0 this season. Will most likely be named the number 1 team in the Nation. This is especially sweet considering all the disrup...
