Re: Legislator says Gov. Brown has signed California Dream A

To quote the UC Chancellor: ..."33% of this recent (9.6%) tuition increase will go to those less fortunate..." This is what I have a very big problem with. I'm all for helping those in need, but not in these economic times, not on my dime, and not when my son's tuition has now been raised 42% since...

Re: Obama Health Care Cuts Spread the Pain

If upper income means a retired couple who saved all their life so that they could enjoy retirement VS worrying about running out of saving before they died, then no. This proposal raises the issue of why should 2 people pay different rates for the same government service, in this case medicare. Wh...

6th Circuit panel upholds individual mandate http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0611/58040.html So now that the courts are ruling that the individual mandate IS constitutional and almost every American will be required to have health insurance, (which I think is great given that I work at a hospi...

Re: Q. When is a tax not a tax?

Please check your facts before posting, Wiles. Even some "liberals" understand that if the government were to put a tax on red cars, manufacturers would stop making cars in red. And this is hardly about "small business." More like "tiny business." Probably 99% of the "businesses" affected by this d...

Obama has stated in public he as well as others making that kind of money should not get the tax breaks...watch the news. Obama also seems to say at nearly every event that he and alot of other "rich" people are willing to pay more in taxes. So... why doesn't he. It would be very easy for him to do...

Re: Of the 1%, by the 1%, for the 1%

Interesting side facts--the top 5% have fewer households with two earners than the next five percent (meaning that the very top is making far more money than the next 5%.) Also, the top 1% pay a lower percentage of their incomes than the next 9%. Even at the top the wealth is becoming more and more...

The rumors of Obama's political death are greatly exaggerated. What repub is going to beat him? Romney with his Romneycare albatross around his neck? Or better yet, The Donald?? If Romneycare is such an Albatross, where does that leave Obamacare which the Dems are all celebrating as Romneyca...

You naively believe that is going to translate into auto votes for his opponent. His speech was a significant signature moment in that he laid down the clear differences between his and the GOP agenda of gutting Medicare and Social Security. His speech was nothing more than an opening campaign salv...

Agreed. I thought his speech last week where he blasted Ryan's plan (with Ryan sitting in front of him) was a good start. If you heard his radio address that Saturday he followed up on the belief of his vision being far different than the one being proposed by Ryan. The real proof being how many GO...

$80 billion is a little over 5%. Every little bit helps. We're not going to cover the whole deficit all at once. If Obama had pressed Congress to end all the tax cuts it would have raised over $300 billion per year - about 20% of the deficit. Since "every little bit helps", would you support that p...

Except for those pesky tax break for the rich...that cost the government coffers $800 billion over ten years. I'll bet you're happy you got your tax break extension. The $80 billion a year in extended tax breaks for the rich is a drop in the bucket of this years $1,500 billion deficit. To cover the...

They don't apply. The top earners pay from 75% to 95% of the taxes collected. How much simpler can I state it? It also needs to be noted that the bottom 45% or so of income earners not only pay zero federal income taxes but actually drain about 3% of federal taxes collected due to credits that can ...
