Re: Trnity League in the NFL

Colt was in a car accident that almost killed him. Aside from injuries to his ankle and arms, he is still recovering from significant brain injuries. Last time I spoke to him he was speaking a lot better than when I first met him, and he gets around better, but some days are good, and some aren't.

Re: "PUBLIC" High School Football Reigns Supreme {TEXAS}

I played football in Texas back in the day. At least where I am from the geography benefits the schools. For the most part there is a lot of space in between towns, which means well defined borders. I tend to think that instills the idea that this is my town here and that is your town over there. Mo...

Re: Myron isn't running as much double wing!?!?

I've met Myron. I had to coach against him back when he had Anthony Wilkerson. We used to chat on the side of the track during track meets. I love the guy. I never took offense to any of his idiosyncrasies. He is just real old school, and it works for him. If I was a running back or lineman, that's ...

Myron isn't running as much double wing!?!?

I now officially feel really old. I never thought I would live long enough to see the day that Myron wasn't running the double wing. This must be what they felt like when the first car came out. Or when we shifted from Radio to TV. Comments from some Tiller fans.

Re: Coach Barbee at Long Beach Poly

Pius has a loooong way to go to get back to the greatness they had in the 90's. They had a couple of mandingos(LB and DL) on the team this year, but facility wise, it looks like the 70's there right now.

Re: Don Markham Passes Away

Heard a story about Markham coming in to interview for one of those coaching jobs after he had made a name for himself. He drives in on his harley and parks it right at the front door of the school. Walks into the ADs office, puts his boots up on the table, and asks "Are you ready to win champi...

Re: "Safe Youth Football Act" ~ California

If you must mandate the abolition of something, start w/ something that has zero benefit, but causes devastating harm.

By that definition, we would need to legislate against Taco Bell. You should see what I can do to a bathroom afterwards....devastating.

I especially like the part about Rollo not knowing football. How do you reach local legendary status not knowing football? I'd like to know, because I could be legendary too.

Re: Coaches Resigning

Well looks like ex-El Toro coach Frith is up for the challenge..... SJHHS_Frith.png Wow. Didn't expect that. That's a good hire for them. I know Rob. I wonder how many guys will go with him from San Clemente. He's a real student of the game. Always visiting other 4 year programs in the spring, maki...

Re: Coaches Resigning

As far as the San Juan Hills gig....Gibson left because his wife had family out on the East Coast. He's pretty successful out there. Gonzales left San Juan Hills as the AD last year to go out to Idaho. Perhaps Flowers is following him? They've always kind of palled around together from Dana Hills to...

Re: Did anyone watch 4-Vertical

All it is going to take is some Schools with some balls like MD, Bosco or whomever considers themselves a leader..... I especially like that part. Who do you think benefits from the club teams? It's no different than AAU. These guys will generally stick together and go to the same school. So ask yo...

I have had conversations with Barbie over at St. Margarets. He said Sage hill is definitely going 8 man. It really screws that league over.

Re: Head Coaching jobs

If the kickoff team uses 7 players as leverage players, that leaves 2 cutback players, and two safeties. The kicker is always one of those safeties. To keep the kicker away from danger you might have him be the safety away from the ball expecting the return team not to try and run the longer distanc...

Re: 4-Vertical

The only realism to 7 on 7 is for the secondary only, and it's not entirely true if you're coaching your secondary correctly. There are no linemen to get run/pass reads from. You might tell your linebacker to make a run read first, but that's not going to happen the entire game when they know there'...

Re: Hold backs or 16 year old freshmen..

I hate 7 on 7's for the simple reason that people are pushing the idea that you have to go to them to get noticed. NO YOU DON'T. They aren't going to get you recruited, no scout asks for 7 on 7 film. I have had way more scouts ask for 100m or 200m times in track and field, than I have film from 7 on...

Re: Hold backs or 16 year old freshmen..

All aboard the hype train! There's some guys getting rich off this 7 on 7 stuff. Get some high profile guys on 7 on 7 teams for free and watch all the other fringe players roll in. Same for camps.

"If you want to play with the big boys, just know there are holdbacks and double holdbacks, 7v7 tournaments, camps, travel, and that's just for starters." If you are truly a "big boy" you don't have to do all that stuff. 7 on 7 tournaments and camps are for scholarship hopefuls t...
