Re: Transfer News? It’s that time of year again!

Rumor has it, the administration was not pleased when they found out the players in question were not staying to complete their HS education at MD. I can only imagine the shock these administrators must have experienced when they discovered that these students had only enrolled at MD to play footba...

CIF Participation from non-CIF schools

This is an interesting story from Santa Paula in Ventura County. Michael Shaneyfelt is a junior at tiny St. Augustine Academy in Ventura, which is a K-12 Catholic school with a total enrollment of about 140 that does not participate in any CIF sports. Michael sought to take advantage of a CIF rule t...

Re: Bol Bol ?

MDDad and the others are right about this "kid losing his spot" take. If you enrolled at Mater Dei High School to play basketball and then get the shock of your life when a D1 player transfers in to take your spot, that's on you.

Wow. Tip of the cap to MD's General Manager. Too many GMs waste entire seasons because they can't/won't make big deals before the deadline.

Re: Bol Bol ?

Question for MD fans as I don't follow Open Division basketball very closely. If the Bol transfer is approved, will that enable MD to hang with Chino Hills, or will they still need to bring another player(s) in? If MD is still one player away, what position do they need? The playoffs don't start for...

Dailydose,

Looking at your post history, you have posted about 40 times in the last year and all 40 are about Servite basketball and John Morris and how terrible both of them are. Every single post. Is everything ok?

Re: Bol Bol ?

I'm also surprised that the Kansas coach would be so surprised/pissed about Bol's departure when the NY Times article I quoted above had this paragraph: Bol’s immediate goal is to get out of Zych’s doghouse and into the varsity rotation. He also has talked to his mother about attending a more basket...

Re: Bol Bol ?

The Register article states that the coach emailed the comments to Fryer. He typed them out and emailed them. Thinking about this subject has made me curious on where the line is drawn for what should or should not be reported about someone under the age of 18. In a February 2015 article in The New ...

Re: Bol Bol ?

If a reporter published an erroneous quote that your kid got "all F's", what kind of "balance" would make you happy? Of course I would be unhappy if an employee of my kid's school gave a quote about my kid's grades to a reporter; it's unprofessional, and probably illegal or at least actionable. Tha...

Re: Bol Bol ?

Check his facts? How would Fryer do that in this case? By somehow getting ahold of the kids grades? My guess is that he called this Kansas coach to get a quote and the coach gave him a whopper. You can certainly debate whether or not Fryer should have published the quote, but I don't understand what...

Re: Servite vs. Bishop Amat

The talent is there. It's there this year. Talent isn't the problem. Football just seems to have taken a backseat at Servite where before it was more important.
Can you explain what this means? If the talent is there, are you saying that the coaching isn't strong enough?

Re: Is Servite scared of the rain?

The quintessential Servite "rain game" has to be the 09 CIF Championship vs. Edison. Servite won 16-6, but I'm not sure they stop Edison's high powered offense without monsoon conditions and a field that played like a rice paddy at Anaheim Stadium. Highlights from the OC Register: 2009 CIF Champions...

Re: Under the Radar?

For myself, none of those would be a justifiable reason to skip a championship game. I would play the game. For someone else, it is completely up to him/her. Why would you play the game? Is part of the reason that you wouldn't want to let your teammates down? If you feel strongly that letting your ...

Re: Under the Radar?

Here is my view on this matter: If you make it to the State Championship game in your sport, and elect to skip the game to go play for another team, this is bad. I started to write a long paragraph about why it is bad/undesirable to quit on your teammates, but I stopped and deleted it because if I n...

Re: Under the Radar?

As long as you're not breaking the law, you can carve out whatever life you want with whatever values you want. So if those kids wanted to go to Vegas to try and land scholarships, that's fine. If another kid wanted to forego that same chance to play for a championship, that's fine too. Relativism ...

It seems Servite held out for a while and eventually got sick of losing. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em. Too bad.

I think my favorite single post ever was back on the OCVarsity board after CdM had upset Newport Harbor one year. MaxCady listed about 25 local spots that now "belonged" to CdM, including, I believe, a Del Taco. There was also invocation of "cotillion". It must have been good because it made me laug...
