MDDad: While I agree with you about the parties, the 1st Amendment freedom of association clause might be implicated.

Re: Civil war in the republican party.

JQP: In the partisan races, I get substantially fewer political mailers as compared to Reconquista Primera who was a member of a political party until this year. That will probably continue until her name disappears from the mailing lists that get sold and re-sold. In the non-partisan races, the eff...

Re: Civil war in the republican party.

MDDad: Right on!
When I registered to vote at 18, even then I couldn't stand the idea of being associated with any political party. I registered as undeclared or non-partisan or whatever it was way back when and haven't regretted my decision.

Re: Immigration laws

I think the "do away with the will of the founding fathers" is a bit of a red herring. The founding fathers put 2 different mechanisms in the Constitution for changing it. They obviously anticipated that the need might arise, but made it very difficult to institute change. Did the nation "do away wi...

Re: 49er Kaepernick not standing for national anthem

I don't think that "nationalism" is bad in and of itself. It is when a person goes nuts when somebody doesn't conform to what that person believes everybody must do to satisfy that person's standard that is a problem. For instance: I believe that it is very patriotic when a person thinks something i...

Wabash: How so? Spock's comment was made about Capt. Kirk, who had slammed the Klingons, going to Klingon on a diplomatic mission. Likewise, Nixon, after slamming China, went to China on a diplomatic mission. Here, Trump, after slamming Mexico, has gone to Mexico on a personal diplomatic mission. Be...

The fault for the precious snowflakes who will melt if they are exposed to an idea with which they disagree should be placed squarely on their parents. I am fortunate and grateful to have had parents who felt it important for me to hear competing views.

Re: Clinton having seizures?

How about we make John Q Public happy and have an adult conversation about whether or not suffering from a seizure disorder, no matter who the candidate, disqualifies that person from being president.
I say no.

Re: Parents of 2 Benghazi victims sue Hillary Clinton

Speaking as a former Navy lawyer, the only cause of action which might have some legs is the defamation claim, but even then it might be subject to the many immunities we afford our leaders. The other causes of action are almost certainly covered by immunity, but I haven't bother to look it up.

I'm worried about Skynet becoming self-aware if our appliances are outfitted with all these fancy intertube thingys.
I'll take a dumb fridge or washer and dryer over a "smart" appliance every time.

Re: Anyone remembers the Long Beach horder?

I remember when I was a young lawyer making an appearance in Orange County seeing her name on the docket for the courtroom I was in. I looked around and didn't see her. After my case was done, I went to the elevators and she stepped out of the elevator I was about to board. I was afraid that she wou...

Elena Zagustin and she lived in Huntington Harbor (she was an engineering professor of mine at CSULB). Not only was there a bunch of trash in her yard, her father was found in tough shape amongst the piles of trash inside the house. She was also nailed for elder abuse. The last I heard she was in La...
