Re: Next Year's Mater Dei and Bosco QBs?
Incorrect. I don't have a horse in the race, but in the interest of accurate history, I pulled out my old newspaper clippings, neatly stored within the homecoming issues from each season. The '73 season, under Gary Carr...the three stripes were still on the helmets. The silver helmets with the lion...

Re: Next Year's Mater Dei and Bosco QBs?
Actually it was MD on the sides if I remember correctly. The stripes were red on white also. Having played under Cochrun I liked the school seal on the side with the current helmet....

Re: MD LOSES MVP
I don’t know for sure if he left or not but anyone who has attended open house and listened to the athletic block instructors talk about conditioning and nutrition you know he has made an impact and at the school. My kids have had excellent instruction and developed as athletes and people. It is tru...

Re: Mater Dei vs. Villa Park
I have to agree with Red, Villa Park played their hearts out. I was really impressed with the spirit of the student body and how they cheered their team on until the end. That roar from across the field after the 3rd quarter touchdown was deafening and impressive! I think our student section could t...

Re: Burt Call - Villa Park baseball
There are a lot of good baseball players in the Orange / Villa Park / Canyon (Anaheim Hills) area. Lots of very good little leagues and travel ball clubs also. I know quite a few of the boys on the team and from what I understand VPHS would have won more games in the past if they would have had a go...

Re: Servite basketball or whatever you want to call it
If it wasn’t for #2 who had 17pts and #15 who I also believe was in double digits they have no offense. They played well defensively but Mater Dei has too many weapons and just could not be stopped. The Pit Crew had a couple of good skits though so all wasn’t lost for Servite. I enjoyed the boxing a...

Re: Servite basketball or whatever you want to call it
I have said it before but they NEVER should have let Coach Kelly go! He may have been young but he had the best interests of the school and players IMHO and I liked how he handled himself. The program would be in a better state than now.

Re: Mission Viejo vs. Bishop Amat @Kiefer Stadium
No, it's not. But it will be in six days when the Monarch freight train runs through Diablo Stadium. You know, the Mother of God always beats the Devil (Gen 3:15; Rev 12:9,17). When you guys win the Big Boy Championship (Big Five, Pac-5, Division 1) FOUR times then give us a call. Heck, just win it...

Re: soccer becoming more popular than FB on HS campuses
LA times article states soccer is becoming more popular than football especially in the CIF city section, there was a deduction of over 25,000 kids in the USA that played HSFB last year as soccer is slowly beginning to overtake American Football in the future, interesting, no? When interviewed, soc...

[quote="BoscoBrave"] When you get a chance to go to a game there, you will see how beautiful this place is. Stadium looked great when we were there for the MD/Bosco track meet. I am sure now that it is finished it is even better. Congrats to you! Now if only we (MD) can buy those homes along St Gert...

Re: Servite schedule
If I remember correctly, we lost to Servite, led by Steve Beuerlein, in the Fall of 1982 while playing as the "Away" team.
Great game of two 4-0 teams playing for the Angelus League title in the final game of the season. Too bad the good guys lost....

Re: No more playing not true high schools
Geographical boundaries for private schools is another GREAT solution. There is no reason to allow Mater Dei, Bosco, or anyone else, to assemble all-stars from four counties, and pretend that's normal. The above is BS. The beauty of Catholic schools is you can live wherever you want and still send ...

Re: Servite admin in hot water
It is truly a shame that Pete is leaving Servite and sad that so many inside the sports community do not appreciate all that he has been trying to accomplish. The guy wants it to be more than a FB school but I guess that isn't good enough for some of you. I remember him telling a few of us MD parent...

Re: High School Sports are being Ruined
For what it is worth, ALL youth sports are now ruined by the idea little Johnny/Joanie can get scholarships, etc.. It seems kids now have to choose at 8-9yrs what "club" sport they have to play year-round now to even have a shot at playing a sports in high school. I saw it firsthand in coaching litt...

Re: What is it about Mater Dei?
For those not in the know, all you have to do is walk the campus after school to see why kids are attracted to the school. It is a beehive of activity, both sports and non-sports related. My older son went on some college campus tours recently and has repeatedly compared some of the schools he has v...
