Re: High School Sports are being Ruined

Great thread. A few thoughts. 1) While Texas coaches may be making a stand against club teams, there is a bit of a secret. The Allen Eagles have an entire development program using a network of coaches that builds talent to feed their team. The number of kids that are signed up for football is nearl...

Re: Wages Rise and 200,000 Jobs Added

Trump didn't pass any major policy or change anything significant that in and of itself caused the economy to become better. Stocks went up on speculation he would favor business and he has. It's easy to see when you look at the trend lines that this trend began well before Trump took office and has...

Re: Why the Stock Market Doesnt Like Republicans

It's more of a market correction caused by profit takers more than investors. They bought in as the market was rising and sold at the first sign of a dip, causing a further drop. All triggered by a healthier than expected jobs report. Trump is good for business and being good for business is good fo...

Re: Anybody going to be watching the State of the Union Address?

I know a lot of people who are hung up on all the "lies" Trump tells as though anyone really cares. The majority of the general public really doesn't care if the tax cut was "the biggest" or "one of the biggest" or if the crowds who came to his inauguration were huge or small. The difference is not ...

Re: "the inevitable disaster that will be the Trump Administration"

It's popular to blame the consumers of news for the swing and I can see that argument. Follow the money. News programs received higher ratings if they provides something entertaining, and that isn't always news. While that is TV news primarily, it's spread to other forms. I think a more likely culpr...

Re: Notable Deaths - 2018

Mort Walker, creator of Beetle Bailey cartoon, has died. I used to read that one every Sunday, when I still took the Sunday paper. I haven't read a comic strip in years.

Ikea Founder Ingvar Kamprad dead at 91. I can't tell you how many pieces of Ikea furniture I've assembled. Sad to see him go, but I'm pretty sure I cursed him under my breath more than a few times. https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/business/2018/01/28/ikea-founder-ingvar-kamprad-dies/1072923001/

Re: Saaaayyyy! What's this button do?

Not that long ago I learned of the root cause of a major outage. A guy noticed an error code on a systems console after planned maintenance. It was the middle of the day and everything was working fine, but he called up the company that made the unit to find out what the code meant and how to fix it...

Re: "the inevitable disaster that will be the Trump Administration"

I didn't like Obama when he was in office, but at least I didn't cringe every time he opened his mouth. I didn't like the ACA or the way it was passed, but it was better than what we had and it ensured my kids had health insurance until they were 25. I thought Obama's foreign policy made us weak, bu...

Re: "the inevitable disaster that will be the Trump Administration"

I am continually amazed at how Trump supporters seem to be able to look the other way at how much of an imbecile this guy is when he speaks. It's a national disgrace. The only saving grace is that it is so bad, people have to start feeling a bit sorry for the citizens. If we re-elect this clown, we'...

Re: Fiat Chrysler Moving Ram Plant from Mexico to Michigan

I find it amusing that people are looking at big moves by corporations such as the FCA plant renovation to build trucks and the Toyota announcement in Alabama as being influenced by the tax changes. That is ludicrous. These companies do not make such long term decisions based on current legislative ...

Re: Fiat Chrysler Moving Ram Plant from Mexico to Michigan

Texas has no Prop. 13 protection until the homeowner is 65. I am purely speculating. I wonder if Prop. 13 is partially to blame for skyrocketing home values. Would a homeowner be so anxious to purchase a home if they thought the property taxes could double overnight? Prop. 13 locks in a rate a taxa...

Re: Voter Fraud Details

Voter fraud exists, but the numbers are so small, and they happen on both sides of the political spectrum, they don't have influence over an election. Remember the Dornan/Sanchez investigations, in CALIFORNIA? http://www.cnn.com/ALLPOLITICS/1998/02/13/cq/sanchez.html I realize that was quite awhile ...

Re: 24 Things That Require a Photo ID

Yes, it was a primary election. That's not the point though. The point is that there are many different ways that being forced to show an ID can affect an election. Even a primary election. Remember, there are a number of candidates and issues being voted on even during a Presidential primary. Many ...

Re: 24 Things That Require a Photo ID

Ridiculous. Showing your ID merely shows you voted...not who or what you voted for. Here in Texas there are separate lines by party affiliation. You stand in one line if you are Republican and a different line (although there is usually no line) for Democrat. First time I voted I was standing in th...

Re: Trump Tax Cut

Nearing the end of the year and learning more about the tax plan. Not sure how this is all going to shake out, but it seems that we could have done just as well with lowering the Corporate tax rate to 25% and use some of the revenue to pay for the bill. It's not revenue neutral. Bick and I had a bri...

Re: 24 Things That Require a Photo ID

This again? We have more pressing issues don't we? There has not been a single significant case of voter fraud prove despite numerous investigations. By significant, I mean enough to influence or change the outcome of an election. This is nothing more than a tactic to limit who can vote, who will vo...

Re: US Coal Exports are up 60.3%

Funny how these headlines grab attention but when you look at the facts behind the headline, it's a bit of a different story. Reading that coal exports are up 60% would have one believe that coal mining jobs are recovery. The data doesn't support that. As was pointed out earlier, automation is the b...

It's not $200,000...$1,000 X 200,000 workers = $200,000,000. Typical. Yes, I made an error in haste. Thanks for pointing that out. I made a lot of comments in that post and you cherry picked this one. The point wasn't the amount, it was that they not only announced the bonuses, but also announced l...

Re: Trump Tax Cut

I thought I'd borrow that line from the Dems for this debate. I'm pretty sure the top 10% wage earners was the threshold for those who could "afford it most". Using car purchases v. home purchases, I'd argue a significant reason the relative cost of cars staying affordable is the absence of the tax...
