Re: How can teachers demonstrate their value?
Not sure I understood your last sentence.. The last sentence - as garbled as it was - was making two points. One, a kid won't perform that much better in a private school than he will in a "good" public school. And two, a "good" public school pretty much means a school with higher performing peers....

Re: How can teachers demonstrate their value?
Many teachers will tell you they don't believe in any type of evaluation. There argument was that their jobs are so unique that no fair method was ever possible. I have always felt that this a pile of you know what. Any and everyone can be (and are) evaluated no matter what the job. What the teache...

Re: Historical Misnomers
It may not be all that historical, but it is a little hysterical... We have Lake Forest, which never had a lake until one was dug, and still doesn't have a forest. Apple Valley has never grown an apple in it's life. The last time there were any antelopes in Antelope Valley was way before they got a...

Is alcoholism a disease or lack of will?
Some people believe alcoholism is a lack of will of the person. They approach their lives like this and if they have a medical issue they do everything by the book. They refuse to believe it has anything to do with it being a disease. http://www.alcoholaddict.info/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/alcoholi...

Re: How can teachers demonstrate their value?
The high performing kids would be expected to go on to college level courses. The ESL kids are expected to learn English. Too many kids are pushed into the next grade level that haven't even grasped the basics of the grade they're in. That is a setup for failure for the kid, the school, and big pro...

The logs say we've had over 1300 501s and 503s in the last 2 days. That's about a years worth, normally. Apparently page names are getting appended on links. Like instead of "...viewtopic.php", it's saying "...viewtopic.php.viewtopic.php." Has anybody been getting these? I'd like to track down what...

The Battle of Bunker Hill was fought on Breed's Hill The gunfight at the O.K. Corral was fought in an empty lot across the street and down a few doors from the corral. Most vertebrates descended from ancestor with sixth sense
"A study in the Oct. 11 issue of Nature Communications that caps more than 25 years of work finds that the vast majority of vertebrates – some 30,000 species of land animals (including humans) and a roughly equal number of ray-finned fishes – descended from a common ancestor that had a well-develope...

Re: Thomas Sowell: Reverse Racism
Lets face it, the Obama Admin. is made up of racists and bigots, as well as tax cheats and people who are just plain incompetent. Obama has said in one of his comic books that he came to despise his Mother's race, and that he had a serious dislike of his Grandmother. He said he'd stand with the Mus...

Re: How can teachers demonstrate their value?
By how prepared the student is for the next step in their education.. Do they really know the subject, or are they just parroting.. (No, Paul, this is no reference to you.... ) How would a teacher who teaches a bunch of high performing kids rate compared toa teacher who teaches a bunch of ESL kids?...

Re: The State of Public Education
Greetings, Is anyone else upset over the current state of affairs with our public education services in California/Orange County? I have watched my child's public education services be depleted year after year by budget cuts that show no concern for public education whatsoever. Why is nothing being...

How can teachers demonstrate their value?
Here's a question for parents and all other tax payers. How can teacher's demonstrate their value? It seems that people in industry are valuable to the company they work for when they bring in revenue or increase productivity. Teachers, however, don't bring in revenue nor can they increase productiv...
