Re: basketball state playoffs

Crenshaw had over 3000 kids in it's heyday. Less than 1000 now.

Re: basketball state playoffs

didn't say Crenshaw ....did say that that if there was a glut of talent at Crenshaw (the talent pool there was so rich that there were stories of kids who barely played at Crenshaw or even got cut that went on to higher level basketball) kids/parents would go find situations where they can be showca...

Re: basketball state playoffs

agree on the fact that there's a lot more parity in HSBB. MD has had to share the TL title with Bosco the last few years; the 2-3-4-5 teams in the TL all have multiple high major players and in the case of Orange Lutheran, a potential NBA lottery pick. That's just one league-the Gold Coast, Baseline...

Re: basketball state playoffs

small-school dynasties: Santa Clara/Oxnard when Lou Cvijanovich was coach (829 wins over 42 years)-in this day and age with modern transfer rules they probably would have ended up in Open Division at some point. He died last December age 92.

Re: basketball state playoffs

in their heyday it was a dynasty. It hasn't been for at least 10 years-and with less than 1000 kids in the HS (school is an academic disaster area) won't be back anytime soon.

Re: basketball state playoffs

Only other HS's with similar long-term history of success to MD are in LA Unified: Westchester and Fairfax. Westchester will have coaching transition in next few years (Azzam is in late 60's)-Fairfax has successfully navigated this transition with the hiring of Steve Baik (former Chino Hills coach) ...

Re: basketball state playoffs

Current coach at Chino Hills (Latimore) has makings of being there a long time and having a high rate of success when there.

He already broke the Balls (pun intended :) ) and with a playing background that includes Arizona and Notre Dame is primed to win over the long haul.

Re: New Santa Margarita coach

biggest issues at SM are the location and the very vanilla nature of the student body, which can be a bit off-putting for some skill guys...also lots of competition for local talent, whether from private (JSerra) or public (MV).

Re: Servite basketball or whatever you want to call it

only takes 3-4 well placed scholarships to compete in basketball. Once you have those guys, the talent you need to compete is "attracted"-provided you have the right coach.

Re: Did the creation of the Trinity League help cause some of the problems plaguing HS sports?

agree that the arms race extends beyond football. Overall quality of TL basketball is higher than in the past-while MD is still MD they have lost to Bosco in league the last 2 years and there were 4 TL teams in D1/Open basketball and the 5th (Orange Lutheran) is a good bet to win 2AA. The girls show...

If I am correct OLu was looking at buying a 2nd campus (was a junior HS) right near their current location. Did this ever come to fruition?

Re: Did the creation of the Trinity League help cause some of the problems plaguing HS sports?

Parallel is the Mission League in LA. Doesn't seem like it's quite as crazy.

There are other schools private/public that want to play the game (Oaks Christian, Calabasas, Westlake, Mission Viejo, etc). Not too many willing to run bus fleets to compete though.

Re: Rollinson's Last Season

This is the common knowledge that most believe next season will be his last but his retiring doesn’t have anything to do with this transfer controversy. And Buck there are indeed more than 5 players from this season that are not at the school any more. I personally see nothing wrong with a kid enro...
