How do you feel about prenuptial agreements?

Postby Charles » Sat Aug 20, 2011 7:47 am

If you are a male and had a large income would you ask for a Prenup?

If you are a male and marrying a girl with money how would you feel if she asked for a Prenub?

If you are a woman would you sign a prenub?
As a woman with money would you ask for a prenub?

I understand why they are there and I think for the very wealthy, the make some sense. It takes the question of money out of the picture. Some say it is planning for a divorce and I understand that argument, but I don't think it really applies. Marriage should be about the bond or connection between two people and not about the assets. When there are significant assets in play, the mind messes with the heart.

Where I have a problem though is where the prenup governs the marriage. In other words, when the party with the money going in changes how they interact during the marriage for fear it will impact how the assets will be split upon divorce.

For example:
If I buy this car for her from "my" money then who gets to keep the car in a divorce? Is this really her car or is it my car that I am letting her drive?

When this thinking plays out as part of regular routine, then the marriage is doomed to fail.

I would sign a pre nup as long as I knew I would be financially set up.
I wouldn't think a man was too smart if he didn't want to protect his assets..

You wrote you married a Russian and divorce is not an option. Just wondering why divorce isn't an option.
