Not really. It's the stock market. It can react to what traders had for breakfast.

Not to be a stickler for accuracy or anything, but is that vertical axis supposed to be semi-logarithmic or what? Either way, it vertically compresses recent gains while stretching earlier ones to make them appear more impressive. Was there an agenda there?

10-year average from Marketwatch
10 year djia.jpg
Same with the X-axis compressed
10 year djia2.jpg
Pretty much the same but the difference is the age of Omar's graphic - red dot where his stops.

But it still didn't do as well as other world indices. If you want to brag about almost keeping up, hey. Whatever. Your call. Get back to me when it out-performs the DAX or the Nikkei.

Maybe it means Trump's brilliant decisions, uplifting policy initiatives, inspirational pronouncements and dynamic personal leadership are just more appreciated by the investors in foreign countries.

I can't believe I didn't notice that. A thousand point gain for Obama is twice as large as a thousand point gain for Trump, on Omar's graph.

Marketwatch's graph shows the same thing. Are you intentionally trying to miss the point?

I assume the vertical axis on Omar's graph was compressed at the top to more accurately reflect percentage gains rather than absolute gains.

Their optimism was uplifted by the report on covfefe futures. They were able to steal those projections before they were announced.

That's my guess also, although I'm sure the visual aspect of that, was not lost on Omar, in choosing an image to make his case.

Covfefe is always a sold commodity in which to invest, especially for investors in those countries that can control the supply. This is even more true of the decaffeinated variety.

What is it about Omar's graph ending about last May that's causing such consternation? The 1000 point gain isn't compressed - it hadn't happened yet.

But it's still lagging behind everybody else but the country going through the divorce. It's good, but it's hardly time to break out the Champagne.

It's the vertical axis were talking about. Look How much vertical height there is on Omar's graph, between 18,000 and 20,000, and compare that to the vertical height of the space between 8,000 and 10,000.

You HAVE to be messing with me. On Omar's graph, the height of the 8,000 - 10,000 is 1.7 cm on my screen, while the height of the 18,000 - 20,000 is 0.7 cm.

Ah, so your taking credit for 2+ months of the Obama Economic Expansion...a strategy gleaned from the Trump University "Creative Backdating" seminar, no doubt.

You must have slept through the latter part of the seminar, though. You're supposed to take it all the way and backdate Trump's presidency to his nomination in July, thus crediting him with another 4 months of pretend accomplishments. Then backdate Obama to his nomination in August 2008 and you can blame him for the financial meltdown in September...win/win.

Yes, in 2016 when Obama was president...this is all about pointing out that it shortchanges Obama, then?

Okay, now I see that the spaces on the Y axis get gradually smaller. I couldn't tell you why they did that but it starts at 10,000, so it flattens the growth from 2010 onward. Not something you'd think somebody trying to make Obama look good would do.
