IRVINE – More homes are planned for the John Wayne Airport area – plans for two projects totaling 406 residences came into City Hall last week.

The two proposed projects bring the total of possible residential units on the 2,670 acres known as the Irvine Business Complex to 14,185, 3,628 of which are built and occupied.

While proposals keep coming in, city staff members are working on a master plan for the industrial area. City Development Director Doug Williford said his staff members are preparing to study the environmental effects on the area.

On July 25 the Irvine City Council reviewed the staff's master plan for the Irvine Business Complex – seen in an overlay zoning plan and vision statement for shaping how the area is developed. Then the council decided to have an environmental review done.

Williford said his staff will begin the environmental review by February. It should be ready by the end of 2007.
