Just as the presidential candidates are campaigning early, so are Irvine’s city candidates.
Already, Councilman Sukhee Kang has submitted a statement announcing his intention to run for mayor in 2008.
“Over the last three years I’ve worked very hard to deliver programs that would be beneficial and good for the community,” Kang said after Tuesday’s council meeting.
He said that he’s exploring the possibility of running for mayor, after discussing the idea with supporters and friends.
The 2008 election will see Mayor Beth Krom’s seat open, along with council members Larry Agran’s and Steven Choi’s. Choi announced earlier this year that he is seeking to run for termed-out State Assemblyman Todd Spitzer’s seat.
No other candidates have announced.
Meanwhile, all five council members (including past candidates who still have campaign accounts open) recently submitted their campaign financing reports for the period Jan. 1 to June 30.
Councilman Larry Agran collected $22,393. He still has a total debt of $154,239 from past elections.
Councilman Steven Choi collected $4,950. He has no debt.
Councilman Sukhee Kang collected $16,265. He has a total debt of $42,164.15.
Mayor Beth Krom collected $20,953. She has a total debt of $35,586.28.
Councilwoman Christina Shea collected no money. She has no debt.
