Interesting read on the lingering effect of "choice".

Boys have a much greater chance at success in India and China. Sounds like a cultural issue to me.

The last line of the article:

"Restrict abortion or accept the slaughter of millions of baby girls and the calamities that are likely to come with it."

Are we supposed to restrict abortion in India and China?

Well, for starters it's in the Religion and Sprituality section. Bible thumpers are always trying to make abortion a religious issue. Perhaps the science section would have been a better "choice."

Secondly, let's look at this excerpt:

By Ms. Hvistendahl's counting, there have been so many sex-selective abortions in the past three decades that 163 million girls, who by biological averages should have been born, are missing from the world. Moral horror aside, this is likely to be of very large consequence.

Is this the new math? In order for this number to be even remotley accurate she would've had to poll a large selection of these women and ask why they choice to abort. This is math based on assumptions. Perhaps that is why it's in the Religion section and not the science section.

I'd like to read Bev/Brooke/No Doubt's take on this issue before responding.
