Anyone watching the World Cup? Lots of great matches and scoring so far especially today. Colombia looks for real with James Rodriguez and both of his goals were beautiful today.

Brazil squeaks through on penalty kicks.

US vs Belgium Tuesday. Hopefully I can be awake for the match coming off graveyard. Come on USA!

Not a big soccer fan but I always enjoy the World Cup, for some reason. I watched the Brazil-Chile match and then we went out "for a few minutes" and I completely missed Colombia-Uruguay. It sounded like it was even better than the Brazil game. Netherlands vs. Mexico tomorrow should be a good one. Costa Rica vs. Greece will probably be a blowout.

I'll be rooting for our boys on Tuesday but I'm not getting my hopes up. They played like they were outclassed against Germany.

I agree we were outclassed against Germany but we had a few chances and Germany is the best team in the tournament in my opinion.

I think we have a strong chance against Belgium and if we're able to beat them we should get to the semis. Argentina is just Messi and a bunch of scrubs.

I am not a big fan of futbol, but like JQP, I do enjoy watching World Cup matches. I can't sit through an entire match and I am frustrated by the time rules where nobody really knows when the match is going to end. I would prefer to see a countdown clock. I am sure that is blasphemy to the hardcore fan.

I have heard that Belgium has not really shown a lot of strength yet. They looked impressive in sweeping their bracket, but their bracket was weak. They have not been tested. The US is coming off some very tight matches and should show more resilience and perhaps more fire (if not more firepower).

Personally I will be out enjoying live in the OC today and won't have much time to stop and watch the matches.

I think that's part of the problem in the game appealing to AMerican audiences, in general.

There isn't a lot of scoring, the time counts up instead of down, and there's a lot of flopping.

But once you get past that and you see a pretty goal like this one:

You love it.

Very good but very disappointing game. I only wish that Mexico had drawn Greece and the Netherlands had drawn Switzerland. Both deserved to at least get to the next round. Mexico was dominant on offense and handled the heat better but Holland was tough. And then Mexico gave the Netherlands the win by committing a stupid foul with a minute and a half left. I'm happy for the Netherlands but very disappointed for Mexico and their fans. Both teams deserved to go on.

USA will beat Belgium. After the Mexican military helicopter shot at our border patrol, I am glad the Dutch beat them. Okay, I'm part Dutch to.

Costa Rica did an outstanding job of holding off Greece's "power play" for 40 minutes and two overtimes. Costa Rica's also for real. Two excellent games today and tomorrow's should be just as good.

Sounds like an AARP mixer.

I disagree JQP, I don't think Mexico committed a stupid foul, I think it was blatantly a bad call. The Netherlands/Mexico game is the only game that I think was decided by a poor call which is too bad because it was a great game up until then. I still think the Dutch advance in extra time but that was a crappy way to win.

Algeria and Nigeria gave the traditional powers a solid match today. I will be excited to see that game. France is actually looking nearly as strong as Germany albeit against weaker competition.
