"It appears it will be open season for USC's starting QB job come spring camp.
New USC offensive coordinator and former Texas Tech head coach Kliff Kingsbury sat down with ESPN's Shelley Smith on Friday and confirmed that there will be an open competition for the starting job in 2019. Kingsbury inherits returning 2018 starter, rising sophomore and former 5-star prospect JT Daniels, rising redshirt sophomore Jack Sears and redshirt junior Matt Fink.
"Yeah, I like what I've seen," said Kingsbury on the QBs. "Last year all three did a nice job when they stepped in. I'm excited to have a competition this spring and see who kind of emerges.
It will be open competition, yep," Kingsbury said when pressed further on the topic. "I want to see how everybody handles my system, see how they pick it up and then how they play within my system."
Daniels had an up-and-down debut season in an inconsistent offense, starting 11 games. The true freshman completed 59.5 percent of his passes for 14 TDs, 10 interceptions and 2,675 yards. Sears started one game (Arizona State) with Daniels sidelined with a concussion, throwing for 265 yards and two scores in his only action of the season. Sears was so impressive in relief that it became a storyline near the end of the season that he should get more reps. Fink completed 7-of-9 attempts for 41 yards and one score in four games, but was sidelined for several weeks with broken ribs he suffered against Utah. Both Sears and Fink were four-star prospects in their respective classes."
Kingsbury will also add three-star 2019 Arizona QB Kedon Slovis to the mix, who will enroll early and signed on Wednesday.
Seems the new hire now responsible for resurrecting the Trojan offense is starting from scratch! Competition can be a good thing. If you read the entire take there seems to be a sense Sears has a legit shot at this job. Any thoughts?
I was thinking the same thing...interesting read

"How stupid is our country?"
But, I think losing Bru is REALLY gonna hurt USC. I predict more defections for the verbally committed as the seeds of doubt are sewn.
I hear Kyle Ford and Puka Nacua could end up elsewhere as well. That would be 3 All American WR defections in one recruiting class ...
