Congrats to Mater Dei And Poly

Post by sammy swordsman » Sat Nov 24, 2012 8:13 am

Who would have thought ?

Mater Dei is back, IMO 1 year ahead of schedule. With 3 consecutive outstanding freshman classes coming up

Poly rises Pheonix like and comes from nowhere. Dare I say Lara for C.O.Y.

I was truly surprised that MD handled Bonnie so easily. I thought Bonnie would be a much better team.

I wasn't sold on Bosco all year. They kept winning, but I think having a soph QB makes it tough to win in the late playoff rounds.

At this point of the year, the QB play is huge. Which is why I'm picking MD over Poly

No disrespect to a very good Bonny team, but they should not have been rated so high with no passing game. Very good defense but it is very hard to compete in the PAC 5 with only one running back being your entire offense. Their young QB was lucky not to be picked a couple more times.

Poly Secondary is imposing, they are big and fast so TDuarte advantage will be neutralized somewhat. Poly is also very difficult to run on, this will be an interesting match up, DMoney will have his work cut out for him to come up with a winning game plan, I give slight edge to Poly. Look for a low scoring game, MD will need a Groetegood type effort to get over Poly. I do think this will be a classic play off match between two of the most stroried HSFB programs in So Cal. You just have to forget about Poly early on they are a completely different team and the only weakness I see is discipline eqauting to penalties.

Who cares about this game? Can we talk more about Servite's offseason workouts? Do you know if they did ploy metrics on Friday or was it just strength and conditioning drills??? That's what I'm interested in.

After seeing both teams play and evaluating their respective runs to the final, I would say MD is about a 7 point favorite based on their balanced offense, sound defense and most importantly significantly better coaching.

Poly is extremely good defensively...I mean REALLY good. Their size, speed and athleticism is second to none. They EASILY shut down what I considered a pretty good Bosco Offense (SJB only TD came off pick 6). Held the Braves to maybe 6 first downs and maybe 120 yards of total offense. Poly's defense is one of the best units I've seen in some time. Offensively, as always, they can run the football behind a massive O-Line and two very good RB's. They won't try and fool anybody, they will line up in a Power Set and simply try to run the ball down your throat. Defenses will load the box and this is when Poly will spring a pass from time to time. The passing game is where Poly is very weak and their inability to pass is where I think they lose this game.

Special teams for Poly are horrible. The punter is their star RB and unfortunately for him he can't kick. The placekicker is also very ineffective as indicative when Poly won't try a 30 yard field goal on 4th and 9.

Poly's weaknesses are a result of poor coaching as they have the athletes and skill to be very good all around. This is a good Poly team but not a great Poly team. They're in the final based on great athletes on defense and a strong running game.

MD is playing good football at the right time. Like Poly, this Monarch team isn't great but one of the best in a real down year for this division. To compare this match-up to the great MD vs. Poly D1 Finals of the 90's is an insult to those all-time great teams on both sides.

IMO MD should win this one in a very low scoring game as both defenses will dominate. If either team scores over 21 offensive points I will be shocked. Could come down to key turnovers and penalties...again advantage MD.

GO POLY!

Once again Edac you show how little you know about football. Long Beach Poly was an after thought as the season began and a few games were in the books, yet they improved enough to be in the Pac-5 finals AGAIN! Now, lets think back when Servite won its first Pac-5 championships. Servite trounced Poly in the first game of the year and when they met in the Pac-5 semi-finals the Friars escaped with a narrow victory when a penlty called against the Jackabbits on a fourthdown that failed allowed the Friars to go down the field and score the winning touchdown. Seems Poly's bad coaching gets them ready for the playoffs!

Congrats to the Monarchs and to Poly. The Mater Dei coaches have put in one of there best performances. I don't think much of the Poly staff, especially after watching the T.V. show about them. They do have some dudes, their defense is very tough.

TheTruth is right. Lara mentioned during an interview about how the stands were empty this year. People lost faith. I have never seen the stands so empty. After thrashings at the hands of St. Bonaventure the last few years, Santa Margarita last year, and Narbonne this year, the fair weather fans left. Even the playoffs have seen lower attendance.

In reality, and I'm a Poly guy through and through, beating Amat was an accomplisment. Mission Viejo could have gotten real ugly for the Green and Gold...and Bosco...well they were #1 in the Pac5.

It was said on another board..and I'll repeat it here....LBP is playing with the houses money. I just hope when it's all said and done, the casino will close, and Poly will complete this magical of all seasons with a CIF title.

Poly looks good right now. They are on a run and would be trouble for almost anyone the way they are playing. I still think MD beats them because they are a more balanced team.

On a serious note, does anyone know why Poly's special teams (all aspects...kicking, punting, kickoffs) are always garbage? Can they not find a kid who will snap the ball and grab a soccer player from the 5,000+ students they have and get that kid to kick for them? Its amazing that they have accomplished what they have through the years with such awful special teams.

I saw both of these teams play this year and I think both of them are playing good football. It is going to come down who can win at the LOS. Should be a great final, hope enough fans show up to make enough money for cif.
