Servite Football 2015

Now that we have a coach, let's talk about expectations.

The 2015 schedule (in no particular order)

@ Bishop Gorman
@ De La Salle
vs. Bishop Amat
vs. Edison
vs. Fountain Valley

@Bosco
@MD
vs JSerra
vs OLu
vs SM

What's a realistic expectation for the Friars with this schedule, with a new coach and after losing a few key players?

Honestly, I think if Meyer gets out of this year with a 3-7 record, 1-4 in the Trinity AND keeps the losses competitive, that's a fair record for his first year and for the teams he's going against. I can see wins coming against Edison and FV, and maybe a victory over OLu or SM. I think 4-6 overall and 2-3 in the Trinity would be not completely out of the question, but not likely either. 5-5, 3-2 is asking a lot at this stage.

The key will be his coaching staff. In his radio interview he says he will bring over a few coaches from CdM, there will be some holdovers from Servite, and a few coaches from elsewhere. But his experience as a coach is huge. Winning 50 games and three championships in 4 years is no small feat no matter what the level. I'm excited to see how it all pans out.

Better strength training hopefully is going on right now or starting soon. Real soon.

Way too early to tell. Too many variables. Anymore transfers in or out? Not just at Servite, but at all schools. What will the coaching staff look like? Even the order of the games is a factor.

The expectations will be low this season. It is too much to expect Meyer to turn things around so quickly that anyone expects wins over Gorman or De La Salle... and probably not Amat either.

After that we'll see how the Trinity plays out. There are some questions to be answered for all the teams in our league in 2015.

Way too early. However based on the schedule it appears you have at least 2 automatic losses (Gorman and De la Salle). Then you have a few more where the Friars will be fairly heavy underdogs (Bosco, Mater Dei and Amat). Then you have a few where they may be underdogs but with a fighting chance (JSerra, Olu and SM). You have a couple where the Friars may be favorites (Edison and FV). I would think 4 wins would be a success, especially if 2 of them are in league.

Personally I think this is a tremendous hire for Servite and fans, it may be early, and you may not have slotted the team, but Meyer can coach, knows how to win, ton of Class.

You guys might be under estimating, but setting low expectations are not bad either.

Servite reemerges as a power...DlS game is the measuring stick, but all the other games Servite will be in, IMHO.

One day hopefully we are excited about going to the game too.

I know it's early folks but I give everyone full rights to amend their statements and predictions as new information is made available. As of now, I haven't heard any rumors on the coaching staff. Tonight is the meet and greet.

God what an awful, stupid schedule for a completely average HSFB program.

History will recall what it recalls, but I propose the downfall of Servite FB is tied directly to the Senior class of the 2012 fb season (2013 grads).

If Servite has ANY usable juniors on the 2011 team they probably 3-peat as CIF Southern Section Champs. The 2011 Seniors were so good they nearly did it by themselves.

Then the 2012 season was such a catastrophe that we lost the best coach in the Southern Section, and all of Servite's cache immediately vanished with it.

With all of the momentum the program had, I can not, for the life of me, figure out how such a terrible class of football players rolled through. Makes you think the Almighty is a Monarchs fan.

God we stink now. Just awful.

I can't speak for The Big Guy, but I know for a fact that His Mom's a die-hard supporter.

Avon, please don't forget that the "best coach in the Southern Section" made the bewildering decision to change offensive schemes and then the real catastrophic move to fire the best OC in Orange County after 2 or 3 games in 2012. This is the same OC that "the best coach in the Southern Section" has never won a title without, not counting that D10 title at Crespi. Its not all on the kids...

The Monarchs are ringless for the last 13 seasons. I don't think He's a fan.

That 2012 season was quite a fiasco. But I think the problems started from the 2010 finals vs. DLS. It was the beginning of TT's downfall. He suddenly got real neurotic with his decisions and overly obsessed with DLS.

I agree. The CIF loss to DLS got into TT's head. Got real weird and obsessed after that.

Spot on Friar4life, and I think Servite also has gotten obsessed with being a bigger program than they are at the moment. The schedule is absurd considering we play in the Trinity and we've been in rebuild mode for the last three years. Time to scale down on the DLS and Gorman opponents and give the program a chance to build back some forward momentum.

I have a feeling Servite will improve a lot this year. Might even beat BG and I'm not a fan of Servite.

Napoleon, based on what ? They have a new coach and a program in shambles. Most of there top players graduated. While anything can happen where do you get the optimism ?

How many big school D1 offers did Servite have with their 2015 class?

I'm assuming you don't mean how many D1 offers...Equanimeous had something like thirty offers himself.

Eight seniors that I know of had D1 offers.

Four underclassmen with D1 offers still remain at Servite, last I heard.

Sorry, I meant to ask how many players in the 2015 class? The big ones were Notre Dame and Oregon right? The big lineman kid is getting a full ride right to USC right? Which other majors? I get that any D1 ride is huge, but asking more about big time schools.

C/LS A J Carty to Washington.

One underclassmen has an offer from Oregon State among others.
Another has an offer from Nebraska among others,
Another has an offer from Notre Dame among others, and
Another has an offer from Washington State among others.

Hopefully Scott Meyer can turn those talents and others into a winning team.
