There is Chance that Amat , Loyola and Alemamy finish tied for third . Alemanys only shot would then be to win the coin flip and get third place and the automatic birth .

If the .500 rule is going to apply like this then this might encourage D1 and D2 teams to schedule 5 preseason cupcakes to get to 5 wins. The .500 rule seems to have the effect of making league standings beyond the top 3 meaningless.

I agree, Joe, and I said the same thing a couple days ago.

Grouping teams into divisions based on their performance in the previous two seasons is a huge step in the right direction. But once in those divisions, the rules for making the playoffs are still archaic and arbitrary. Receiving an automatic berth by finishing in the top three in your league makes little sense when it’s twice as easy to finish second in the Baseline League as it is to finish fourth or fifth in the Trinity League. Why should Upland get a guaranteed spot while JSerra, Santa Margarita and Servite don't? A .500 record as a qualifier makes little sense when a team can ensure such a record by scheduling five patsies for their preleague games. The CIF’s four selection criteria for choosing at-large teams make little sense because they are arbitrary and confusing.

If the intent is to get the 16 best teams in each division into the playoffs, the job can be done in five minutes on the Saturday morning after the season ends. Just take the 16 teams with the highest power rating in each division. Bingo. Done. There is no more objective and fair way to do it. Teams that play in a tough league would be rewarded, while teams from weaker leagues would be forced to schedule up in preleague games in order to impress the algorithm. The strategy for every team would be to schedule tough opponents and beat most of them. No other tactic would ensure a playoff spot, especially in the lower divisions.

Too bad every week in the trinity can't be like last week. I think MD and Bosco games may be a little closer than people think since those teams might be trying to get players healthy or have a mental letdown after last week.

Or Bosco still really pissed scores 200 just to make a point.

I would have trouble believing MD would not be up for the Men in Black, Rollo wouldn't let them.

Weather conditions are the only factor this week.

Good point you may be right..... but when talking about high school boys sometimes adult logic gets thrown out the window

At this point I would think Bosco and MD have their mind on the big prize, despite the huge rivalry game for MD. Of course coaches and players will always say the correct thing that they are only thinking about the next game but that is easier said than done.

I can agree, posters have laughed at me many times when I have said Homecoming week that testosterone laden young men have their minds somewhere else.
