I know Mater Dei beat that team. I was there. Some of coach Johnson”s best work. They were scary good though. Onside kick and roundtree on the middle screen. One of the greatest games I ever saw.

He's not the best ever, but Cody Fajardo was better than a lot of guys named here. He had less talent than a lot of them, too. State player of the year as a senior and one of two players in NCAA history to throw for 9,000 and rush for 3,000.

Was the other guy as equally unknown?

Thanks anyway, tracked it down...Colin Kaepernick

Fajardo was a good QB but he hardly belongs with the group listed above...2nd tier at best.

Some good ones in the 80s, Randy Karliner, Danny O’neil, Doug Hennigan, The Johnsons, Marinovich.

Kaepernick ended up with an NCAA record of over 10,000 yds. passing and 4000 rushing. If, as you say Fajardo is #2 behind him, that is indeed a great accomplishment, it's not like he's tied for 4th

9,600 passing yards and 3,600 rushing. I agree, that is a great accomplishment..... especially since Kaepernick played six more games.

Great thread. Great names. A lot of good arguments. Bringing back some names I'd forgotten, like Aaron Corp. He's definitely in the conversation. It seems like we're not the only ones who realize there is a lot of talented QBs in OC... USC has sure followed that train of thought. Half the names mentioned wound up at USC.

Not sure about Huarte's son, but two of his grandsons graduated from Servite in the last five years.
