Everyone has touched on part of the reason. Yes, the series was started a few years ago as a favor to Fountain Valley head coach Jimmy Nolan, who is one of Coach Rollinson's ex-players. In both of those scrimmages, the Baron players were very pumped emotionally, treated the scrimmage like their Super Bowl, and had a great time. Mater Dei stays in first gear and runs only the most vanilla of plays, and I think Fountain Valley benefits from the experience.

If anyone has a list of better opponents who are willing to scrimmage, please post them.

If no Sunset teams and no Mission Viejo, how about La Habra or San Clemente?

Bick I think it was 2015 when FV scrimmaged MD, two years ago FV was 1-9, that must of been tough to watch. If you recall kids bailed out of the program with Fenton and Schaffer(sp?) quiting. Nolan came in late May I think.

I was there from 2013-15. I want to say it was CDM in 2013, but I thought it was MD in 14 & 15. I could be mistaken.

As MDD pointed out, MD was vanilla, and the scrimmages back then were super bowl-esque

I don’t think Mater Dei is scrimmaging fv for charity. Fv was probably the only local team willing to scrimmage them.

Mission Viejo (Done), Tesoro (8/10), two good opponents.

As his family member, errr “objective observer,” you and everyone else around the kid need to get out of his way and let him develop and compete.

When your brain directs you to actually type things like that, its amazing there is no intelligence reflex to prevent it. This is just an internet message board bud, where commenters discuss kids playing a game, while trolls attack those same kids and their families. Dont burst the blood vessels in your neck trying to establish "credibility" off the back of worthless criticisms of 15 year olds. :2cents:

"...that division...." Yes they got just under D8 and are in D9 correct? If so they should be favored to win it and good call on the sophomore squad.. do you follow the Colts? They would have found worthy competition in D8. Teams with good playoff runs from D11-13 for placed higher obviously but some favorably if winning a CIF title in a division is of importance.

Covina will have some great returning starters at the skill positions ( QB, RB, 2 receivers) but I think they will not be returning any starting defensive line men ( they had one jr that rotated but was not the starter I think and one returning starting offensive lineman.
how the new line looks on both sides of the ball will be a big factor telling to just how great a team they will be.

Let us see how "good" Covina can be before we decide how "great"..... :eh?:

Last year UHS used the Covina Field for some Practice while the UHS field was being redone and the Covina Kids would come out and watch the practice. It was surprising to see the difference in Athletes from the two schools. It was pretty significant size wise.
