Yes, by far
Miklo wrote: They don't have a hard schedule, the only team that they need to beat is MD.
Obviously their pre-league schedule isn't as ambitious as MD's, but it does include one Trinity-level team in Chaminade. Then after MD and the rest of the Trinity they will likely face two of three nationally ranked teams in Mission Viejo, Corona Centennial and MD in CIF. If they win out, they could then ultimately face currently nationally #8 ranked Folsom in the State Bowl. So if they do run the table, it could very well end up being one of the toughest schedules in the nation.

head-scratching preseason for the Braves - did no one want to play them?

not familiar with the teams they play before league except Chaminade - though they are a top Mission team, they won't provide Bosco with any kind of a challenge

the Eagles are almost surely a good step down from last year's team, and Olu handled them pretty well as a wild card from Trinity in the opening playoff game, at Chaminade

if MD and Bosco go 1-1 vs. each other this year, and that's their only loss, I'd say MD has a good argument for top dog in the country, assuming it's the second of the match ups that they win vs. Bosco

What is most amazing about Bosco team in the last 5 years, they have been the most consistent Div 1 HS football team in southern California when it comes to making it to the CIF and State title game. Bosco is the Only Southern Sec Div1 school to have been to 5 straight consecutive Div 1 CIF finals. And they will make it a 6th this year. No southern Cali school has shown that type of consistency in the pass 20 years. Its going to be a battle between MD and Bosco but i love Bosco's chances. Only 6 starters back from MD 22 starters from last year.Totally different team and a whole lot of Div 3, 4 and 5 transfers that has never been battle tested in the Div 1 TRINITY LEAGUE. Its no joke when you enter the #1 League in the country. Going to be a great game.
5 straight CIF D-1 Finals, even MD and LB Poly in the 90's, early 2000's, never did a feat like that right?

the 2017 MD team, how many starters returned from the year before(2016 team) compared to how many starters are returning to Bosco for this years team from last seasons team?

Between 1997 and 2004, Long Beach Poly played in five straight finals, and seven out of eight.

yet despite LB Poly having a rich FB history, they have never won a National Championship before in HS football.

but not even 1 National Title for LB Poly, is it because they lost at the wrong time that took them out of the National Polls? or do the National Polls pay more attention to private schools than public schools?

I think there may be two reasons. One is that Long Beach Poly had their best teams at the same time De La Salle was unbeatable and winning national championships annually. The second is that, much like college football, the West Coast probably didn't get the respect it deserved until the Spartan winning streak. The only California schools to win majority national championships are:

1916 - San Diego
1954 - Vallejo
1955 - San Diego
1957 - Downey
1966 - El Rancho
1975 - Loyola
1987 - Fontana
1994 - De La Salle & Mater Dei
1996 - Mater Dei
1998 - De La Salle
1999 - De La Salle
2000 - De La Salle
2001 - De La Salle
2002 - De La Salle
2003 - De La Salle
2017 - Mater Dei

very good info, thanks, can't believe that didn't hit my mind, that when Poly was at it's best, it was when DLS had their streak alive, the 2013 Bosco team, you didn't include that? was it because they weren't number 1 in every computer poll? even though they did put a National Championship banner in their gym, my guess is that the 2013 Bosco team is similar to the 1994 MD team, in which they were tied, or was it less than that?

I believe that list contains only those teams that were named on 50% or more of the polls and computer programs that existed at that time. Otherwise there could be years with a half dozen "national champions".

Since I'm not sure what "dont wont" is supposed to mean, it's a little hard to respond. But if you're calling me an ass, I take that as a compliment coming from you. It's like Einstein calling someone smart.

Here is how So Cal Prep Insider sees it here in the southland going with MD as #1. Seems like the polls are split on #1 and its good we play these games...
SOCALPREPINSIDER10.png
I suppose you can say MD is defending #1 until they are beaten. Many think the seniority of SJB will prevail this time around when matched against MD. OLU has Hilinski believers and seeing MV as a OC public this high is impressive yet again. I've been telling you all about Cajon! As LBP many of you are saying they are no longer relevant almost a joke bother there are at #10. --:--

Six publics and four privates. There's obviously a need for separate divisions because of the terrible imbalance.

Four of the top six, no?

Refresh my memory. What percentage of CIF SS high schools are private? About 40% I believe.
Well...According to the CIF SS, These 18 teams are the cream of the crop based on the last two seasons.
1. Mater Dei
2. St. John Bosco

3. Mission Viejo
4. Lutheran/Orange
5. Santa Margarita
6. Chaminade

7. Centennial/Corona
8. JSerra Catholic
9. Bishop Amat
10. Serra
11. Servite

12. Rancho Cuca.
13. Murrieta Valley
14. Oaks Christian
15. San Clemente
16. Vista Murrieta
17. Poly/Long Beach
18. Valencia/Valencia

Hmm...Looks like 9 of the top 11 are private schools.

Not only is it top heavy with privates, but the gap has been widening at an increased rate the past five or so years. Mission and Cen10 are slipping. Even with the occasional public getting a good crop of transfers to go with strong local talent, they still will not make it to the D1 final anytime soon. We simply need a super league where these top teams can go play each other.

“We simply need a super league where these top teams can go play each other.”

You mean the Trinity League? Or the Division 1 playoffs? We got those. I’m not sure there is any cure for MD or Bosco. The CIF has let it go too far.
