Mission Viejo to Forfeit 4 Games

Post by BBB » Mon Oct 08, 2018 11:58 am

Heard a couple of times today that Mission Viejo is going to forfeit their first four games for using an ineligible player. Any official confirmation?

Heard from VERY reliable source that this is in fact the case.

LA Times is reporting that they have informed the Southern Section, just not officially in writing. Not official but sounds like it will be. This begs the bigger question: How do forfeit losses impact seeding?

Just saw the article. Not sure how it can be “a clerical error” but nice try to spin it in a positive direction. Bet there is a good story behind the violation if they had to self report it.

Hmm, clerical error?, seems like more to it, was someone in the know going to drop a couple of
dimes to the CIFSS, I can see a one game screw up but four! games into the season
and MV waiting another THREE weeks to fess up? Something looks amiss here, no?

In any case, SM will pick up a victory because of it.

Lets just say that it is "self reported" because another school found out.

So, that player coincidentally stopped playing right before league or did they get hurt?

I'm thinking, (my opinion only) that maybe there was such a delay in reporting , is
because just maybe there was possible discussion of not reporting it, if the powers
at be could? Hypothetically of course.

This is similar to MD in that it doesn’t appear to be a kid who was a difference maker this season since their big named skill kids all played the last few games after the violation occurred (assuming the kid has been sitting out since that fourth game).

I’m curious to know too if this impacts a team’s seeding (not just Mission, but the teams that turn the loss into a win). If so, anyone know exactly how CIF looks at it?

MD is still #1 in the USAtoday national prep FB poll even with the forfeit loss, fyi;
not sure how four forfeit losses would look for rankings though, will be interesting.

On a side note, JSerra has come in at #24, on the USAtoday national top 25 poll.

I think when u r MD the one FL is something you could look past but 4 is tough to ignore. CIF is where it gets dicey and means something the other polls not so much. But I would be hard pressed not to drop them if true even in the OC TOP 10 as subjective as it is.

Congrats to JSerra, told ya'll! =D>

The "seedings" (i.e. the top four spots in each division's playoff brackets) are primarily determined by the CIF rankings the last week of the season, and in the past they have not punished teams much for having to forfeit games. In 2012, St. John Bosco forfeited the first four games of the season, then went on to win the Trinity League title and get a top-four seed with a 6-4 record. I'd expect Mission Viejo to win the South Coast League and come away with a similar result.

Since, the forfeits are likely preleague games, they have no effect on league standings for Mission Viejo or any of those four opponents. The only likely beneficiary is Santa Margarita, who now goes from 2-5 to 3-4 and has a realistic shot at being an at-large candidate if they can win two more games.

How can this happen? Especially when the whole world beats up on the privates for using ineligible or questionable players!!!

You have to know that "any big time program" is being watched.

Now just maybe MV can stop with the hoiler than thou attitude.

You got caught ( self reporting my ass ) just accept it and admit it and go on

Just cheat better next time!!!

Like White Bougher said "if no one sees it , it never happened!!!"

Does VP benefit and become a higher D4 seed now... They are presently #1 but erasing that loss will likely solidify there spot.

CIF Poll just released VP is at #3 so they could benefit if they get the win over MV.

No.
If there was going to be a delay don’t you think it would have been reported week 10 once league games were finished?
