Max came to Mater Dei right after finishing 9th grade. Regardless of what that grade may be called in Connecticut (or Australia), it's considered by the CIF to be the freshman year of high school. So he was a transfer.

But if he graduated from Fairfield Country Day School that had no 10th grade, then what school did he transfer from? If you graduated from Mater Dei, and entered UNLV, are you a transfer?

It doesn't matter if his old school has a tenth grade or not. He still completed his ninth grade there, which CIF considers the freshman year of high school. His CIF eight-semester "clock" started running on his first day of ninth grade, and if he changes schools any time thereafter, he's a transfer.

Okay...He's a transfer. I bet you never thought I'd be defending a transfer into Mater Dei, did ya?

Nope. I'm almost inclined to pack my skis and go to hell, because it must have frozen over.

Or maybe those parents didn't know what they were talking about PTG

It's always fascinating when a fan of a school where all kids attend for free criticizes another school for providing some level of tuition assistance.

I actually never had a problem with Wittek even before I learned that his previous school only went to 9th grade. He came in after 9th grade, and even the CIF allowed that for any reason.

I don't know who the kid was but most likely not even a starter. When MD dad told me they had 8 or 9 transfers this year I was shocked then when I saw the names I'd never heard of all but 2 or 3. When I researched they were kids that certainly don't start and rarely play. Three of them didn't even have number when I looked on the roster. The transfer numbers can be deceiving. To find out you had 8 transfers and only 2 start and both are only 2 or 3 star players. To my knowledge DW still only has Ivy league offers and JF has 2 Pac 12 offers

What most people don't know is that Todd Hunt came to Mater Dei with the Witteks right after he and Max completed ninth grade. Max's parents were his legal guardians and he lived with them much of the time. He would have enrolled as a sophomore with Max but lacked the grades and credits to do so. He returned to Connecticut, improved his grades, and came back after his junior year.

[quote="MDDad"]Sorry, PTG, but it's statements like this that make you look ridiculous. Can you name one football player at Mater Dei who was ever "paid to play"?[quote]
I can name one. He was one of your star freshman running backs a few years ago who was from South Central LA via the IE Ducks and had both parents incarcaraed. Somehow he had a MD alum become his legal guardian and cover room and board, that is until issues came up and the kid had to transfer out of MD. “Ironically” the support then stopped.

Friarjoe needs to get out of the prediction business. He was way off this week. My hopes for Servite to go D2 have been shattered. Coach Thomas may actually have a chance to build something in Anaheim. Time will tell.

What’s lost in this discussion is in both of the MD and MV cases, the player in question was a senior. It sucks for the kid to get caught up in this mess with missed paperwork and eligibility issues. Sucks that this year is likely the last chance for both of these kids to play football.

When you transfer, you know the job is dangerous. Coaches know the players, and if they don't know the game or the situation, then they are just as much to blame. Why take in or allow a transfer that really has no upside to possibly blow it for the whole team. MV has lost 4 games, those kids can't get back, tarnished senior year. Selfish on everyone's part. But it's a self gratifying, me society. It is what it is, it's up to you to participate or NOT!

Damned if I know what you're trying to say here html...it's like you took seven random sentences from seven random sources and strung them together

Let me guess...your point is, the most important thing is how many wins your team has your senior year?

because in the public school system a school/team/club just CANT say a child may not participate if they have not broken any rules that the school / school district district has given for all students.

This also is not a "ME" situation or circumstance that you have referred to in the past. This is not a child that is going to play football most likely beyond this year. No one was saying come play for us because your so good. He was at MV before and had to leave for issues we are not going to talk about. Circumstances allowed him to transfer back to MV which he did before Chad became coach.
