Wow -interesting prep football ranking

Post by cruiser » Mon Nov 26, 2018 5:37 pm

MD has jumped to national#1 in four out of the five respected long time established prep FB rankings.
(Maxpreps, both polls/HSFB America/PrepNation, the last remaining biggie, USAToday
actually DROPPED MD to three behind Allen Texas and SJB!!!

How does one figure that one out? I guess MD has to win big in the state championship game
to get all five - though four out of five ain't bad brother, would take it any day!

"Expert" Rankings? A head-scratcher, especially since the CalpPreps/Maxpreps computer which crunches all the numbers has Allen #21 nationally...pretty sure USA Today has computer rankings as well, maybe that will come out different?

Just enjoy the CIF Title and possible State championship. Any talk of a "National Championship" in HSFB is like searching for Big Foot--purely mythical, nothing but a beauty contest that rewards running up scores--and a futile exercise in mental masturbation.

No team with 1 loss on the field especially 41-18 should ever be crowned national champions in high school.

Handful of undefeated state champs deserve that title more than md

Maybe so, my friend; but 4 out of 5 respected prep football expert ranking systems say otherwise - at least for now. Who knows how it will end up.

Mater Dei has beaten teams computer-ranked #2, 3, 7, 12, 19 and 95 in the nation.

Allen TX has beaten #115 and nobody else in the top 400.

If not Mater Dei, then who?

Why not IMG? Like Mater Dei, they have only the one loss by (4 points 24-28). Mater Dei used trick plays to edge them out, and if they played again, I'm not sure who would win. And a 4 point loss to MD, is more respectable than a 23 point loss to Bosco.

so if Georgia makes played LSU and beat them in a championship game, then went on to beat Alabama in the Final Championship game. You would claim UCF is more deserving of the national championship because they have no losses? Cmon man

uhmmm... because IMG got beat by MD, IMG doesn't have to go deep into a playoff run , play multiple rivalry games and prove they can sustain a high level of play for 15-16 games.
Bosco lost when it mattered, deep in the playoffs and in a championship game. This last game could have easily been
30-7 MD.

Number 1 is supposed to mean you are the best team, not that you have the best record. Using your logic, South Hills who is 14-0 is more deserving than Mater Dei.

hopefully Allen from Texas can finish the season number 1 but I don't see that happening, it must feel great to be an MD fan, it must feel like owning Mona Lisa to be an MD Alumni, because it means you hold bragging rights against everyone else. Just like people hate the Yankees, Patriots.

So there are 2 schools of thought here on what makes a HS national champion...what Servite fans think and what everybody else thinks

If you want to know what this Servite fan thinks about this inane discussion, see the third comment on this thread. You guys need to get a life.

LOL I love this narrative.

Mater Dei also used an epic, perfectly executed game winning drive, capped by a zone read option QB run, AND a last minute defensive stop, to edge out a JUCO team of grown men ... built in a lab ... that called them out publicly and hadn’t lost in 4 years.

But yeah, just trick plays. ONLY trick plays. Boise State 2006. LMAO

Yeah, that "national championships are mythical" insight really broke new ground...

If we need to "get a life", what are you guys whose season was over in September doing here??

What kind of logic is that? Mater Dei has beaten three teams in the national top ten, including IMG, five in the top 50, and six in the top 100. IMG has beaten #73 Hoover and #82 Pine-Richland. They've won seven games this year, don't participate in any kind of playoffs, lost to Mater Dei, and you want to crown them national champs ahead of the team that beat them?

[USA Today HS Sports meeting]

Expert 1: “OK guys, so our #2 Mater Dei just beat our #1 St. John Bosco in the Southern Section Championship, holding them 40 points below their scoring average. Bosco was a prohibitive favorite and a unanimous national #1 on the way to our Super 25 title. Bosco had won the first matchup by 23 points. An epic upset. Monarchs have six wins over teams ranked among the top 100 nationally, three against teams ranked in our top 15, and gave powerhouses IMG and Bosco their only losses this season.

Clearly Mater Dei rises to the top spot, no?”

Expert 2: “Well, our #3 Allen won by their smallest margin of victory all season, and gave up 40 points - their most all season, in an area playoff game against a team with 2 (now 3) losses that wasn’t even on the radar.”

Expert 3 (using notable Texas twang): “Well, I hope it’s clear to everyone ... we’ve got to DROP Mater Dei to 3, keep the team they JUST BEAT ahead of them at 2, and jump Allen over BOTH of them to #1. Texas Fight!!”

Other Experts: “AGREED!”

Expert 1: “OK I’m done.”

And if you're not a fan of either Alabama, Clemson, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Georgia, or Ohio State, then shut the hell up about the College Football Playoff.

You see, for the other 378 schools in the Southern Section (plus every other high school in the entire United States except for about five) who are not part of the hunt for the unicorn called the "Natty"....your season means nothing. After two losses you might as well pack it in and let the real teams get on with the important business of stroking their egos.

Let the silliness go on...
