Intriguing Carson offensive lineman Shancco Matautia enrolls at Servite

Intriguing sophomore offensive lineman Shancco Matautia of Carson (6-2, 300) has enrolled at Servite, Friars football coach Troy Thomas confirmed.

Thomas said it’s unclear whether Matautia projects to be a starter in the fall but the coach is excited to see how he develops.

“He’s definitely in the mix (at offensive line),” Thomas said of Matautia after the Friars’ recent college showcase. “I think he can play all positions. He’s very athletic. He’s got a chance to be a very good o-lineman. … He moves.”

Thomas said Matautia also could play defensive line.

Offensive line should be a position of strength for the Friars, who open the season at J.W. North on Aug. 30 before playing at Bishop Gorman of Nevada on Sept. 7.

Lol! I was wondering how long it would take you guys to find out about Shancco. He's been at Servite since January. He's a former teammate of Noah Fifita, T-Mac, and all, on the OC Buckeyes, and wants to play with his old buddies. Coming in as a second semester sophomore, I'm good with that.

Shancco (along with OT Nick Martinez) was named 1st team all tournament at Jesse Sapolu's "Men in the Trenches" tournament last week.
