“On behalf of the three Trinity League teams participating, we are ecstatic to produce the type of event that will bring national attention to the quality of football played in Southern California,” Bosco head coach Jason Negro said. “The Trinity League prides itself in being the best high school football league in the country, and participating in an event like this is what our school communities, fan bases, parents and players aspire to be a part of.”

The opening game will be between JSerra and Georgia’s second-ranked team in 2018, Milton. JSerra was No. 17 in the national rankings by MaxPreps.com, while Milton finished 37th. The game is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Sept. 13.

The Braves, who were the CIF-SS Division 1 runner ups in 2018, will play Good Counsel, a Maryland school that was ranked 90th in the country by MaxPreps.com following a 4-2-1 season in 2018. The game will kick off at 7 p.m. on Sept. 13.

Mater Dei will close the showcase on Sept. 14. The two-time defending national champions will face Maryland St. Frances Academy, which went undefeated last season to win a state title and finish No. 6 in the MaxPreps.com Xcellent 25 poll. The start time for the finale is 7:30 p.m.

Well, if you are hosting the event, you get to schedule who you want, personally I don't think
Bosco will have much trouble with the school they will be playing, while MD got the toughest of
the bunch....

obviously i dont know how good any of these maryland or georgia teams are but calpreps projections would have had jserra beating milton 38-20, bosco beating good counsel 46-13, and mater dei beating st frances 48-17 if they had played this past year

MD is back to back National Champs. Of course they should get the hardest opponent. Maybe what's coming back for these teams is what we should look at? Anyone know what they have coming back?

Some background on Mater Dei’s opponent - Baltimore Saint Frances: they are loaded every year and will be again this coming season.

Coached by Biff Poggi, one of the most successful HS coaches in Maryland history. They are the Bosco/Mater Dei of their area, not in overall resources, but in that they collect/attract most of the top talent in the local area. They also bring in a few kids per year from outside the state, however, especially Virginia and DC.

Poggi, also a rich businessman, formerly coached Baltimore Gilman HS to 13 Maryland private school state titles before leaving in 2016. After spending a year coaching at Michigan (where his son was a fullback), he took over league rival St Frances, which never had much of a football program and went winless in 2015. Has used his personal fortune to remake the program and support many of the boys on the team who are living below the poverty level in Baltimore. Quickly made SFA into a national powerhouse and destination school.

Alabama has signed 3 players from St Frances in Poggi’s first two seasons at the school, including the #1 ranked defensive end in the 2018 class Eyabi Anoma. SFA reportedly had 19 of their 22 starters in 2017 go D1, when they finished #4 nationally.

They became such a dominant team so quickly that the Baltimore area Catholic/private school league they were in (MIAA) revolted. Executed what some here have suggested should be done to MD/Bosco: last summer the schools in the league, one by one, announced they would not play St Frances, after getting outscored 342-50 in league games the prior season. They cited “safety concerns” and unfair recruiting and talent advantages. In doing so they essentially banned SFA from competing for a repeat league/state title.

St Frances was forced to play an all-national/international schedule on short notice in 2018, and unsurprisingly went undefeated. Although the schedule was mostly cupcakes, including multiple Canadian academies, they still finished in the top 10 of multiple national polls. Their game projection is worthless, considering its largely based upon the level of competition they were forced to play at the last minute.

They outscored their 9 opponents 477-32 with 5 shutouts (also had a forfeit win). They did beat their best opponent, previously 15-0 Georgia 7A state champ Lee County HS, 43-14 in the season ending Geico State Champions Series. To end the 2017 season they beat Utah state champ and powerhouse Bingham 41-3 (in Utah) in the same series. They have won 32 of their last 33 games, and their last loss was to IMG in 2016.

Per 24/7 recruiting site, for the 2020 class they have 3 national top 100 recruits on defense, led by the #1 defensive end in the class - (another) Alabama commit, Chris Braswell. They have 6 total 4-star 2020 recruits on the team, all ranked in the national top 250 for the class and all major D1 recruits. And that’s just the top of the roster.

No doubt that will be a battle for the Monarchs and is perhaps the best national HSFB matchup announced thus far for 2019.

Didn't CIF announce last year that CA schools will no longer play out of state schools that weren't in a bonafide league?

That Milton-JSerra game should be very good. Milton upset Colquitt County HS in the Georgia state final when CC was 14-0 and some polls had CC ranked in the top 3 nationally.

JSerra’s schedule reflects Harlow’s intent to take that program into the national conversation. They’ll have to win a Trinity/CIF title to get there.

I think the new rule was that CIF teams cannot play schools that are ineligible to compete in their state playoffs.

Since Maryland private schools do not participate in a traditional state playoff tournament, maybe St Frances gets through the CIF turnstile on a technicality.

Maryland has separate state associations for public and private HS's. SFA belongs to the private association.

Yeah, and the MD private schools don’t have a traditional state tournament.
