MD started a 290lb 9th grader at RG in BJ Tolo and he held his own against a veteran DLine for the Huskies. When Donovan Ford is good to go and joins the lineup, this OL is going to be a problem for defenses. Sophomore Mosula Tapusola also got some meaningful reps with the 1st line and will help provide depth, and get some experience for next year when 4 seniors graduate.
The new DB corps obviously held up well, giving up no TDs through the air, forcing 3 more INTs (including LB Leutele with the Christmas Gift Pick 6) for 7 total INTs and FIVE total defensive scores in the last two games against Matt Logan. They pretty much shut out anyone not named Gary Bryant, and didn’t allow him to score. Between White, Jaylin Davies, Domani Jackson, Josh Hunter and new sophomore nickelback Cam Sidney (INT with good return yardage) it looks like the coverage is not going to slip much, if at all.
After losing a lunch table full of talent from last year’s crew — Ricks, Green-Warren, Criddell, Nimmo and Sepulona, that was an impressive performance.
They’ll surely be tested with the teams on this schedule, and it could be a long night if they let Loya go off in October like Bryant did. But there doesn’t appear to be much drop off, especially given the pressure they will likely generate up front and the aggressive overall scheme.
Eric Johnson has figured something out about the Centennial offensive system. Maybe its time CC to change a little..
Tighten up the line splits
Run Two Backs
Use a TE
Maybe it’s time to get back to having more linemen that are over 5-11, or heavier than 250 lbs? Smallest lines I’ve ever seen from them in back to back years. And they might have been bigger this year. Also, how about more than 1 WR that can get open? Or at least one QB that doesn’t panic under the slightest pressure in a big game?
The stories about Logan overcoming talent disparities have always been overblown, he’s always had great QBs, record breaking RBs and at least one or two Power 5 caliber OLs. A lot of them transfers from other IE high schools.
At least, until the last couple of seasons that is. These last two CC teams have to be the least talented in a decade or more, since before the Vontaze Burfict and Taylor “T-Magic” Martinez days.
165 lb Gary Bryant was forced to start both ways, and four of the other DBs that played were between 155-170 lbs. Which is not that unusual for HS DBs, but it’s hard to compete against the literal big boys when more than half your defense is under 200 lbs. You dont even see that at De La Salle.
I dont think it was a matted if Eric figured out anything at all, when the greater majority to almost every player on one side of the ball is a better player then the other side, it doesnt make a difference to what scheme you run or what changes you would try, the result will be the same. MD last year and this year just has a much better team player for player then CC.broman wrote:Eric Johnson has figured something out about the Centennial offensive system. I caught part of the St Frances game on TV this Saturday. They definitely pass the eye test as they destroyed what was supposedly a good nationally ranked team from Miami. They have athletes at every position and they remind me of IMG from past years in terms of talent across the board. One big difference from IMG is that St Frances appeared to play with discipline and ran good schemes. They will be a big test for MD.
Bosco is just worried about winning state. They will be happy enough with that. Natty is an added bonus if it happens.
down Gary Bryant, who himself is lickity split. Not as impressive on TV. Furthermore Cenntenial use to get the big linemen they gave free housing to but like all goods things time changes everything. Players and the parents now go to the new hottest program.
When CC was taking anyone they wanted from the inland empire NO ONE complained, when MV was raiding every high school and stealing their best players no one complained.
Now along comes Bosco and MD doing it better than everyone one else and EVERYBODY complains.
Get over it, find better facilities for these families to live in or get Mom and dad better jobs, till then you are NOT going to catch up!!!!!
When your king of the Hill everyone is gunning for you...
In fairness, according to MDDad... of this years starting players only 7 are transfers and one of those was only at Servite for his Sophmore year.
So pretty remarkable when you think about it and it supports the notion that Victory breads success in that most folks want to play for a winning program and the better you are the truer that may be...
Proof Daforno is delusional when it comes to recalling the past or was not there...
NO ONE complained to the degree we hear all day about MD!
PLEASEEEEE, Bosco and MD just caught up and recruits better, ask Bob how his last 2 playoff appearances went!
Was a running clock used???
