I wondered what all the preseason about VP was all about. They looked horrible in any 7on event they were in. I know it's only a passing league but isnt that what got them up there last year? Piferi slinging the ball? This transfer QB is NOT Piferi.

Piferi was one of the best QB’s I saw last year, great example of what a true next level QB makes combined with decent supporting cast and good coaching especially in lower divisions.

That kid was good!

Shane Illingworth at Norco same effect...

Yeah, VP in some serious trouble this year, after looking at MV and SERVITE losses. Kids about to jump ship.

I must say, wow!! CDM really is opening some eyes on their smashing of San Clemente D-1??
Tesoro is resurging, and oh my God, Los Al loses to St. Paul??? WTF!
La Habra on a bye week, but did beat Upland and played MV to a closer game than Upland did. Now a cake walk till round 1.
Alemany up there , but hasnt been tested at 5-0. Paper tigers!
Serra and cathedral played to a close one and st. francis destroyed harvard westlake.
Gonna be a good one, who will come out on top??

CDM would compete fine in D2. Against the big boys their lines would get smacked around like pinatas and Garbers would be eating astroturf when not running for his life.

Can't win against MD, SJB, JS (who they dropped from schedule this year), MV with a one-dimensional offense-no matter how good it is. Similar scheme/talent to Calabasas-look at what JSerra does to them.

Cdm had a TD called back right before HT and had 16 penalties. They would have scored 55 points without the penalties. If they can clean up the penalties, they are going to be very tough to beat. I don’t see anyone in the Sunset League giving them a game.

As far as D3 playoffs, it could get interesting especially if Alemany loses a few games in a tough Mission League. That could create a very tough first round matchup for a highly seeded team. Their win over Oaks Christian does not appear as impressive as once thought. Same for Grace Brethren’s win over Oaks. Last night Grace went to the wire with a 1-4 Westlake team and Westlake’s QB threw for 435 yds and 5 TD’s. That’s a good sign for Cdm should they play Grace deep in the D3 playoffs.

As of now, it appears Grace, Cdm, Alemany, La Habra and Tesoro are the top 5. We shall see.

Daddyoo,

Nobody is interested in how Cdm or any other D3 school matches up with MD, JS, etc. You are correct, Cdm did not renew the JS series for obvious reasons. A school with local kids and home grown talent has no chance against super teams with kids from all over So Cal. Coach O’Shea made it very clear that they were not interested in playing private schools that recruit and had 19 transfers starting that were not at the school the year before when they played them. The trinity boys can have fun traveling the US looking for pre-season games because nobody will play them.

Top Public schools put on a good show too. I think a hot ticket for a CIF final would be CDM and La Habra.
Semis could have Alameny, Grace, Tesoro , cathedral , St Francis, lawndale? Who knows?? But if you look at Star Power and CIF titles, no better in D-3 than La Habra and CDM.
What is strength of schedule for D-3?
Orange County is representing well!

I don't see them scheduling CC, Upland, RC, Calabasas or MV either. Does your logic apply to them?

What logic is that? I was expressing doubts that all of CDM's players are "home grown local kids". People want to pretend it's an all or nothing thing, but it's all a matter of degrees, isn't it? Just trying to keep it real.

Strength of schedule says a lot . Especially if the games are won and competitive. Homegrown kids are your core, along with a strong youth program. Unfortunately, a lot of those have fell off. It's about off-season training, and hoping you have a solid high school that can develop kids.
It's tougher on public schools because they don't have the funds and staff, or facilities of Privates. There are a few communities that still preach localism and get community support, / funding.
Yes, we know if you win , they will come. But if you keep bringing in selfish players and me guys that breed cancer , transfers, 4 schools in 4 years,
Then can't win, you stop your local interest, and they go elsewhere.
You lose funding! You lose support! You lose period! It's about how you treat people, alumni, etc.. You see how Troy Thomas has started to rebuild the program at Servite. Alumni, weight room, the trenches, and being a warrior no matter what position. Getting guys out, no matter what the division and education. He is leading by example and walks the walk. It's a thing of beauty!

San Clemente in OC (along with CDM and Edison) come to mind as good examples of localism. MV combines localism with "enhancements" at key positions-and from what I see hasn't missed a beat since the coaching transition (so far). SM/Tesoro feed off the same kids programs-but for SM to compete need "enhancements' at the speed position (SM is a tough place to get to from out of the area)

While JSerra gets a lot of transfers, the culture (school/team) as a whole is positive-Harlow is a real leader. The guys who transferred in (McClains, Street, Genova's as an example) seem to thrive there.

Say what you want about what's happened at MD in terms of attraction of players-the coaching staff is still first-class all the way.

To the north of us-a very solid example of "one-town, one-team" community support is Moorpark HS in Ventura County. One-high school district, coaching staff has been in place a long time, facilities built with community money (first-rate stadium), solid kids programs and solidly competitive since the mid-90s as a result. Seems like they get 1-2 kids to D-1 every year (eg: Drake London at USC, Dennis Pitta/BYU-NFL) and have their share of pros as well. Moorpark HS has been open for 90 years or so, so still lots of old-timers in town that supported the team when it was a small farm town team going 1-9 every year, and still do after the town's development.

Good stuff Daddyoooo!
Harlow is a leader and knows his stuff. Knows where to hang his hat and what it takes at the highest levels.
Kids buy in and respect!
MV- for sure hasnt skipped a beat, and knows the new age game and recruiting.
MD- What else can you say, but well oiled MACHINE! TOP TO BOTTOM IN EVERYTHING.
Looking forward to a Servite Jserra matchup.
Next tier....
CDM- this year, is probably the best team on paper. But they are also backing it up on the field.
Edison the only challenge and could end up like SC. blow out! Garbers- Humphries, Scholmn,Redmann

La Habra- 20th in state , is good! They have competed vs top teams and done well, MV, Upland, and Calabasas.
still comes down to, not getting over the hump though. Have the game in hand and watch it slip away, coulda won, but lost. A little Helton esk. They also have some star power in Clark Phillips and Ryan Zanelli, Kris Koontz, Brandon Vasquez, Daniel Barrales. What happened to West??

Tesoro- 6-0 35 in the state, good sr. class, good oline, qb, 1 wr, and RB. Poston and D solid too.
About Edison's level.

Alemany- 5-0 17th in the state
Grace Brethren-
Cathedral-
st. francis-
D-3 GONNA BE TOUGH!

Learned a little more about D-3 last night. After last weeks loss to Yorba Linda, La Mirada beats up on Cathedral of LA.
They did it with a ex La Habra QB, in Alex Flores. It was probably the upset of the week , so far.
Cathedral is now 3-4.
CDM destroys HB 49-6

Now they are losing to Foothill? Looks like their overly ambitious preleague schedule did more harm instead of getting them ready for league and playoffs?

Localism to an extent. Their QB didn't move from The LBC to The OC.

Super M,
Good point. SC said if we cant beat em, join em?? Picking up dual threat QB from St. Anthony' in LBC.
It makes them more dangerous now , to have a QB who can run, but is he accurate enough? Did he play in the CDM game?
In OC football, here is a scale...
MD
BOSCO
JSERRA
SERVITE
MV
CDM
LH
SM
SC
OLU
EDISON
TESORO
SJH
NOW FOR D-3
CDM, LH, EDISON, TESORO / OUT OF AREA,,,, Grace B, Alemany, lawndale, st. francis, westlake
SC losing one town one team motto, with out of area QB.
The MV vs SC rematch should be interesting. CDM beat SC by 20 points.

HTL,

Billoups DID play vs Cdm and like I said in an earlier post, Cdm left 14 additional points off the scoreboard due to penalties. I was a bit shocked at the outcome of the Tesoro/SC game. Tesoro is gonna be a tough first round match up for a highly seeded team in D3 assuming they lose to MV. It’s tough to overcome 4 turnovers. Poston will have them ready for the playoffs.

Alemany lost to Amat and could lose another mission league game which could also create another nightmare 1st round match up for a highly seeded team.

After watching Westlake torch Grace through the air, I think the top two teams in D3 are Cdm and La Habra. It’s unfortunate LH won’t be tested for another month. Cdm has a tough game vs Edison next week but should roll. Week 9 would be really fun if Cdm and NH are both 9-0 in the Battle of the Bay. The only game hurting those chances would be week 8 NH vs Los Al. NH has played a terribly soft schedule and open Sunset play with FV and HB, the two worst teams. Cdm will dismantle NH but it would be a fun game with all the hype. A LH vs Cdm D3 final would be amazing.
