I agree, La Habra vs CDM is the ticket.
There could be many good story lines for that one. But like you say, Tesoro, or Alemany would be a good first round game for someone?
It's true, LH will not be tested in league. So it should be a good time to dial things in , on the mis haps during preseason. What can you learn from Upland, Calabasas, and Mission Viejo?
Special teams, offense and defense.
CDM vs Edison will be a good one.
Edison has a great coaching staff and they will need to scheme up CDM.
It's tough because CDM has a legit QB,
And all the skill guys. Something Edison used to do, along with a run game.
Edison will just need to keep it close till the 4 th , and give themselves a opportunity to pull it off.

Other teams that have made some noise this year,
Foothill and Doug Case @ 6-0
Yorba Linda- @5-1
Orange- @ 5-1
Tesoro @ 6-1
Sunny Hills @ 5-1
Esperanza and coach Wes Choate @ 5-1
Fullerton is also 4-2 this year, new coaching staff has brought a winning attitude back to Fullerton.
Its the Shaw and Smith show, but have taken good strides to being a more complete team.
Shaw leads the county in rushing, but you better not be 1 dimensional vs La Habra.
This game could get out of hand by the second half. Coach Quesada and coach Salazar know coach Mazzotta
and will have a scripted first series , im sure. A few tricks, or treats for the season.... BOO!
After that, the trenches will take over, and the many, many skill players / TOP QB in the county.
Just too many horses for anyone in the freeway league.
La Habra 42-14

CDM vs EDISON
a SUNSET league classic. Two D-3 teams going head to head, league title on the line and possible playoff bracket placements. Its pretty obvious who the new big dawg on the block is, and who is the favorite, but NEVER count out Edison.

Cdm vs Edison was over 6 min into the game. 42-7 final with running clock the entire 4th quarter.

The most impressive part of last nights game is that CDM rushed for over 200 yds. Edison was dropping 7-8 to defend the pass and Cdm gashed them on the ground. Cdm continues to get better and if their running game is on point like it was last night it’s going to be tough for anyone in D3 to beat them. After getting torched on the ground, Edison started loading up the box and blitzing and Garbers began changing to pass plays at the LOS. Very high level offense.

Cdm’s defense barely allowed 100 yds of total offense and had 3 INT’s. They played extremely well and added a pick 6 on Edison’s 1st possession of the game.

D3 looks like it’s Cdm’s to lose. The only teams that I see giving them any chance of an upset are LH, Grace, or Alemany. This division is a four team race but if Cdm plays like they did last night they will be D3 champs.

Newps-
Im becoming a believer. CDM is proving with action, vs good quality teams, they can dominate and leave no doubt
on who the better team is. Not sure it s such a sophisticated offense, rather than the QB (Garbers) taking what the defense is giving him. He is very good and smart! He also has the players, and now a solid run game.
D-3 has a bunch of solid teams, and even if you are getting dropped into a lower division, there is nothing sure about
getting anything for free.
Edison was a solid team, probably not one of their better teams, but CDM did the same thing to San Clemente, and will probably do worse to Newport next week.

La Habra does have a fighters chance to make the dance, but after last night vs Fullerton, im questioning
their preperation, heart, and desire to win it all. All phases seem to be missing.. again. Onside, hands, pat, kickoff.

Fullerton took a early lead on La Habra, 7-6. I believe it was 13-7 at half??? WTF!! Too many penalties, dropped passes,
undisciplined football. SLOPPY!!! Nobody wants seconds! When you underestimate your opponent, and then expect Clark Phillips to dig you out, again and again, its not a recipe for a championship. Playing down to your opponents and not knocking them out early, leads to first round or second round playoff losses.
La Habra did end up winning 44-20, but could you imagine what CDM would do to Fullerton? It should have been 30-0 at half, and 50-0 final, if you are serious contenders. Fullerton was running the wildcat lol!
Credit has to go to Fullerton staff for game planning on weaknesses, that lead to 20 points.
If La Habra doesnt wake up out of the freeway league slumber, the Lancers , next week, could pull off a upset.

On that note.. looking at teams that are still doing solid,
Alemany
Grace
westlake
Cajon
Tesoro

@HTL

I am confident Frank and his staff have taken note of last night and I expect that he will remedy that situation at practice this week. :)

SJ60,
I sure hope so. Sunny hills will run the ball better and throw it better than fullerton.
With Sunny Hills ranked 20th in the county, and being the most balanced team in the freeway league, LH will need to
take a look at the mentality of their team and realize, in 1 month it gets real again. Sunny Hills will give La Habra their biggest challenge in league, since BP knocked them off the 10 year league winning streak in 2016.
Sunny Hills has scored 280 points this year and given up 115. 6-1/ 2-0
La Habra has scored 262 points and given up 129. 5-2 / 2-0
La Habra has faced much tougher opponents in the preseason, so there is no doubt they can win.
Just going off what have you done for me lately and common opponent Buena Park.
It could be a close game, away game.
Whats the remedy????? Blitz like crazy and apply pressure?
Give the ball to clark phillips or expect him to unchange in a phone booth again?
This is for the Freeway league title., and playoff positioning. Not to say, La Habra wont get a solid number 3 team like a Tesoro or Edison for playoffs. Its time to find your leaders, and work on what will help you beat the CDM'S of the world.
Sleep walking and not getting your guys prepared for what is ahead, could end up with heart break and unsatisfied expectations in a lower division. I dont think LH NATION wants that!
So, whats the remedy????
LH and SH both know they need to start fast, and keep the ball away from the other team.
Last year, with one of LH'S worst teams / 7-4, they beat SH 56-14. sh ONLY LOSS IN league.
Now is the time to find new life and dial in a playoff like mentality.
ALL 3 PHASES!!

La Habra Defense taking it to a whole new level???
Today a kid with a gun came on campus at LHHS and the whole school was on lock down, until 3 kids in metal shop tackled the boy with the gun.
Lockdown lifted, boy arrested.
Thank God nobody was killed. Many stories coming up, that the kid was there to shoot up the school or the kid was there to sell the gun to someone else. Either way, not a safe environment.

@HTL:

I can appreciate your caution regarding LH vs SH but let me say it for you. Highlanders will beat Sunny Hills by at least 5 touchdowns.

SJ60-
Im sure they thought the same thing vs fullerton. They should beat every freeway team by 5 TD'S, BY HALF TIME.
SH is much better than Fullerton, and it once again is for league title, alot like Edison vs CDM LAST WEEK.
We will see if LH touched on the issues that caused the game to be so close last week.

Wow. Not sure it matters that the gun was “small” as much as that it was unloaded.

This student obviously is not in the gifted and talented program over there at LHHS.

CDM handles another opponent to go 8-0.
They beat Fountain Valley, the same as Los Al a week ago, 42-7
Los Al beat Fountain valley 42-7 too.
CDM had FV DOWN 28-0 AT HALF. Efficient and precise, CDM WON.
They also had another solid night running the ball, opening up the pass game, with multiple receivers.
Now they will have the battle of the bay next week vs Harbor, 8-0.

Not sure how much anyone can take from a win over Fountain Valley this year.

If CDM can make a statement against their undefeated arch rivals, that would be a boost to their credibility as a CIF title threat, going into the playoffs.
