Third 4th qtr running clock in a row. Humphreys and Hall sat out the entire game too. Will be well rested and ready for another 4th qtr running clock next week vs the Sailors. I think los al routes NH tonight making NH 7-1 on the way to a 7-3 finish. Cdm could have scored 50+ but took it easy on FV coach Anderson and staff as he coached at Cdm last year.

La Habra starts fast, and doesnt let off the gas, to dominate another league foe.
Starts off by taking the kick off 80 + yards to the house for a TD (Koontz), Then defenseivly, CPhillips, strips ball from SH rb. LH O, drives , scores, before you know it, its 28-0 at HALF. All 3 phases were played good.
Not sure who SH has played up to this point, but, they didnt look good, and they really didnt look balanced.
Fullerton had a better plan and wouldnt doubt if Fullerton ends up being the number 2 team, in Freeway.
La Habra- too physical, too fast, 49-7
One thing, way too many penalties. I think half of those, the refs, needed attention so they throw flags to remind everyone they are there. Stop ruining the game!!!

Elsewhere in D-3....
Los Al destroys Harbor stealing a little thunder away from next weeks showdown vs CDM AND BATTLE OF THE BAY.
Los Al had 497 yards on the ground, how good is Harbor?

Tesoro wins big, not challenged.
Edison wins

Out of area....
Alemany beats Chaminade in OT. Alemany is no joke! Big, Physical, fast, balanced, alot like Calabasas.
Grace Brethren wins big, plays tough D, and runs the ball.
Cathedral and Lawndale both win big.
If La Habra can play the way they did vs Calabasas, but improve off that game and get better every week, till round 1 and 2, they have a good shot to be in the dance.
Like ive said a perfect senerio for my selfishness is, a La Habra vs CDM SHOWDOWN,
good for OC and CIF
Its not going to be a cakewalk tough.
Overall in OC
MD
MV
SERVITE
JSERRA
La Habra
CDM
SAN CLEMENTE
OLU
SM
TESORO
EDISON

CDM- as expected, beats Harbor for battle of the bay, 56-17, nice fun game.
La Habra beat up Troy, nothing new. 50-3
Edison wins 56-7
Los Al beats on HB.
Tesoro wins vs Capo.
Out of Area...
Alemany loses to Serra 35-21
Westlake wins
Lawndale wins
Cathedral and Cajon win

side note...
What the hell is going on at VP???
Yorba Linda runs over VP??? 321 RUSHING YARDS. That is not a usual VP D.
vp is 4-5, and YL is 8-1 , 2-0 Bailey has em going.

HTL,

As I noted in an earlier post, a league champ is going to have their hands full with Alemany in Round 1 of D3. Alemany is sitting at 1-3 in league with a game left against ND that they could lose. The league principals punished both Alemany and Loyola with losses for not playing their game a few weeks ago. This will be interesting.

Grace Brethren lost 13-7 to Sierra Canyon. I’m expecting to see LH at #2 in next weeks D3 polls which would set up a potential D3 final between Cdm and LH!

Cdm should rout Los Al and grab the #1 seed. It’s going to be a fun but interesting Sunday next weekend when brackets are released!

Newps-
Sounds like it could be shaping up for a big showdown vs two remarkable programs, with alot of bling.
Both from Orange County!
The question is what first round team will be given the toughest challenge to reach the top?
# 3 teams...You say Alemany, Los Al, Tesoro, ??? La Habra Los Al has been a notorious game in the first round, and alot of history there. La Habra has also played Tesoro many times.
Some dark horses that are a challenge....
Paraclete, coached by Dean Harrington, has beat Chaminade and St. Francis this year.
Heritage- 7-2
Cajon- 7-2
westlake-
Lawndale-
Cathedral-
Grace Brethren - received their first loss to Sierra Canyon, 13-7 DEFENSE!
NOW AT 8-1
Whoever walks away with the bling in this division, will have serious respect and no doubt could make a good case for the upper division. I know for a fact La Habra is going to be tough for anyone!
Giving Mission Viejo their toughest battle this year 23-6, beating Upland AT Upland, and taking Calabasas to the wire. That is battle tested. CDM has also beat some good teams, and it hasnt been close, accumulating
406 points this year and allowing only 109.
I think it as usual, will come down to the little things, turnovers, field position, special teams,
Defense, Offense, preperation. Film, Film, film!

Oaks Christian vs. Westlake is one of the best rivalries in southern CA. Wild games in past, rich kid vs. upper middle class kids, schools a 1/2 mile walk apart. Former long-time Westlake coach Benkert quit and went to Oaks-and got run out of there a couple of years later despite a D2 ring (now rebuilding perennial loser Simi Valley). Anything can happen in this one....

Not sure who La Habra could get in the first round? CDM is the number 1 seed, and should see a very bad team. Could La Habra as 3 seed see Los Al, or a Cathedral of LA? The latter might not go over too well, since the summer Edison tourney 7 on 7 had both teams ejected , due to a all out riot. Cathedral is a lowly 5-4
and lost to La Mirada earlier in the year. Los Al is 4-5 and seems to be coming on at the right time, could be dangerous. Other teams... is Santiago of Corona going to make the playoffs??, Capo Valley?

CDM IS 4TH in OC.
La Habra is 6th
Tesoro @ 9
Edison @10
Top County leaders-
CDM- Garbers, 2690 , 38 TD'S
LA HABRA- Zanelli, 2603 yards . 32 TD'S

wr- Humphries- 940 yards, 15 TD'S
db- CP3- 4 INT'S

SACKS- tesoro, Hurst and Galloway, both with 12
RB- TESORO, Wran 1132 yards , 12 TD'S

Tesoro is currently ranked 4th in CIF-SS as of yesterday. If the brackets were to be drawn up today, would they still be at 4, even though they'd be an at-large? Will they drop because they're not a conf champion or at least #2? They will be 3rd place in the SCL. They are going to be hammered by Mission this Friday...QB, RB, starting LB and #2 receiver all out for this game.

@Newps, sent you a PM a while ago. Not sure if you check those.

SM,

Yes, Tesoro would be the #4 seed as a #3 team from the SCL. They would play a road game in the first round against a 1st or 2nd place team from another league. If Alemany wins this week I think they may move up to the #4 seed but Tesoro won’t fall far with a loss to MV.

Grace has a tough game against 9-0 Camarillo but will most likely win. I see the top 4 seeds being per the follow (if Alemany wins)

#1 - Cdm
#2 - Grace (if they win)
#3 - La Habra
#4 - Alemany (if they win)

I hope #2 and #3 stay the same which would set up a D3 Final of Cdm vs LH or Cdm vs Grace. Obviously it’s not a cake walk and Cdm will need to get through the likes of a Cajon in the 2nd round and Alemany in the Semi’s.

Los al @LH and CV @CDM are no brainers,,,,,

Edison being most likely Sunset2, vs Heritage or Paraclete, with the other playing Cajon.....

Outside chance of St Francis.....

Super outside Cathedral or Lawndale

SM, where you place in league is not really a factor in the seeding of a Division bracket since teams come from leagues that have a variety of teams from different divisions in them. So being an at-large team from the south coast league does not effect them in the seeding process.
Newps wrote:SM,

note- there are only 4 seeds or seeded teams and they all have home games in the first round.

If Tesoro is the 4th seed team they would have a home game being a seeded team, and play the 13th ranked team in the division which would be Los Al at the moment.
this is how the brackets usually end up with 16 teams in the division and the bottom two teams (ranked as 17 and 18) in Div 3 are done for the season. Being 1st or 2nd in league does not guarantee you a preferred place seating if not ranked high enough.
#1 vs 16
#8 vs 9
#5 vs 12
# 4 vs 13

# 3 vs 14
#6 vs 11
#7 vs 10
#2 vs 15
Last year there were two League Champions who played each other in the first round. Obviously one of them had an away game in the first round.

If things stay the same in Div 1, MD who is a league Champion will play the 8th ranked team in BA, a league champion. Bosco will be the 2nd place team from the Trinity but will be the number 2 seeded team. If things stay the same Calabasas (a league Champion) will be the 7th ranked team and be the visiting team playing Bosco.

in years past leagues were placed in a division so it was easy to put a 1st place team against a 3rd place team in the same division. Today a team from any league may be in any divisional bracket based on what level of play that team is, not their placement in any league.

And the last thing to ponder,
seeded 1 CDM Sunset league Champ,
Seeded 2 Grace could be the 2nd place team in Camino or Champ
Seeded 3 La Habra Freeway league Champ
Seeded 4 Tesoro an at-large team from South Coast
Possible 4 seed Alemany currently an At-Large team form Mission
6 Edison 2nd place Sunset
7 Lawndale 2nd place Ocean
8 Cajon Citrus League Champ
9 Paraclete Possible Gold Coast league Champ
10 Heritage Possible Ivy League Champ
NR Cathedral Possible Angelus League Champ
NR St Francis Possible Angelus League Champ

with just that look at all the league champions (9-12) that may or may not get a home game in the first round.

Capo Valley wins 36-7 vs el toro

Corona Santiago blanks King 28-0
Lawndale blanks,,, 48-0

La Habra opens with Capo Valley.
Home game for LH.
Capo creates turnovers. Griu with 11 sacks, and Haley with 3 ints.
Capo on offense, QB, MOUSIAX HAS THROWN FOR 2000 YARDS, 20 TDS AND 10 INTS****
COMMON OPPONENT
MISSION VIEJO
MV 23, LH 6
MV 63, CAPO 13

I see a LH W, 28-0

As for some people picking CDM to win it all, it looks that way now, but weight room and tougness will get LH to the finals and possibly another ring, proving everyone wrong.
CDM vs LH FINAL, would be epic, coming down to 6 points, the little things, turnovers, offense, defense , special teams, creativity, field position ,will be the difference.

Garbers has to be the difference. He tanked last year in the finals. Put up absurd video game numbers this year. Elite 11 QB like Bryce Young, needs to put the team on his shoulders and single-handily win games like Bryce does at times. No more tanking. He has way too many insane weapons, a really good line, a great scheme, and really good coaches. Garbers is the best pocket passer in the Southern Section throwing to the best WR in the Southern Section (Humphries), best TE in the Southern Section (Redmond), and one of the best supporting receivers in Orange County (Schlom).

No doubt those guys are good! Garbers and Humphries, / coaches.
BUT, Ryan Zanelli LH qb, throwing to probably the best athlete in SO CAL, Clark Phillips.
He didnt play much WR this year, but know he will step out the phone booth when needed.
Turn right around and lock up Humphries / Stanford.
Both teams have many, many weapons.

Grace Brethren poses a huge threat, as they are huge upfront, 300 lbs across the board, a thunder and lightning combo in the backfield, as the FB is 6'0 240 LBS, and the QB runs good. They play tough defense with 39 sacks and 15 int's, tough close loss to Sierra Canyon 13-7, now at 9-1
La Habra will have to beat them and a solid Edison team, who is a bit the same, offensivley..
Running QB, well balanced, and solid D.
Capo valley will be better than anyone LH has played in the freeway, so hopefully they get their pre season face on. They will need to play the way they did vs Upland, Calabasas, and know there will be no body better in D-3 than MV.
The 3rd Season starts now!

CDM needs to put a stamp on it! Same side of bracket as LH, lights your boyz looking like UDawgs in this one!

Grace o-line looked big but slow, CDM vs. LH will be the championship game!

Highlanders will be David vs Goliath, Will the Z bring down the vaunted Sea King Mr G and Co?...

Alemany or Paraclete would be a big test in the semi’s for Cdm! Maybe Tesoro could sneak into the Semi’s vs Cdm. Alemany drew a tough round 1 in Paraclete who just lost 24-20 to Sierra Canyon. Cdm has the horsepower to win it, now it’s time to seal the deal.

I agree, Cdm vs LH for the D3 ship! Let’s hope it’s in the cozy confines of Davidson Field and not the Pit!

Davidson’s press box is not adequate for a championship game. It’s not even adequate for the visiting team. Crappy design. The team rooms are nice though.
