True story I spoke with former Poly asst. coach TJ Houshmanzadeh about this very subject at the MD-Poly playoff game in 2017 and he said LBUSD had totally screwed their program, created an unfair playing field for Long Beach public schools trying to compete at the highest level, and basically handed a bunch of kids over to the private schools that traditionally would have come to LBP.

They are even losing kids to Jordan, Millikan and Wilson that live in Long Beach or Signal Hill and want to come to Poly, but aren’t allowed to due to district rules.

It’s the #1 reason Antonio Pierce and staff left after that season (other than AP getting a great opportunity at ASU with Herm Edwards and becoming their ace LA area recruiter, of course).

De La Salle Spartans up one spot to #8 in latest composite national rankings:

8. (9) De La Salle (Concord, Calif.)
Average rank: 12.4
MaxPreps Top 25: 11
PrepNation: 13
USA Today: 9
MaxPreps Computer: 17
High School Football America: 12

The higher the Spartans climb going into the state Open Division title game (assuming DLS maintains the deed to NorCal) against MD/SJB, the more that win would be worth for MD/SJB (assuming another MD/SJB win), especially if Bosco or Mater Dei go on to win the state title after losing the Trinity League game (i.e. MD 2018).

But hey, maybe Justin Alumbaugh’s kids will pull the upset and make that all moot. #SpartanSwag

its a reminder that something like that won't happen to private/parochial schools for an obvious reason, so yes, it does indeed sound like, MD/Bosco have gotten a lot of the talent, athletes that would have gone to LB Poly, since MD/Bosco became what they are now.

 not even close. Servite has probably even had more Long Beach kids than MD in recent years (like Keith Taylor). Bosco has taken dozens of kids that would have gone to Poly since Negro made recruiting Long Beach and the surrounding areas a priority in his first ever staff meeting in December 2009, which was held at a restaurant in Long Beach (of course). Mater Dei has had barely a handful of kids come to OC from the Poly area in the past 6-7 years, or even Long Beach in general. Shakobe Harper and Tai Marks the only LBC kids of note, and they were never going to Poly.

How fun for the Spartans, traveling to So Cal for a 50+ point beat down...IMO 3-4 teams in Orange county would be good games with too close to call outcomes...JS, CDM, MV, Servite on a night like the Game w the Braves this year!

CDM? This isn’t Los Al or HB High.

De la Salle would beat all these teams by 2-3 touchdowns at least. FOLSOM would probably beat all those teams easily.

Perhaps but at least MV has common opponent w St. Mary’s and margin was was greater for MV, also St. Mary’s had early lead against the Spartans where as MV dominated St. Mary’s, not as strong an indicator as head to head but the best example we have. I am speculating of course, but should things go as they did in The SJB vs. Servite game then outcome shifts to my point. I throw CDM in the mix based on their results, Folsom would not beat the teams I mentioned based on common opponent results, DLS smoked em. They are not the Bulldogs of the JB era...of course you could be right too 1-2 score margin is still pretty close...and we probably won’t really know as they won’t play this year anyway, MV D is really good now, secondary vastly improved they will be a tough draw for anyone, not the team they were when they played SM...if they draw JS in the first round, I got A Jersey Mikes or Philly’s Best large/Giant Sandwich for any takers on that game! MV over JS...

Mission beat St Mary’s 63-7 at home in Orange County. Dls went on the road and beat St Mary’s 56-17 in Stockton. Dls completely dominated St Mary’s, on St Mary’s field. Having the “early lead” doesn’t mean anything when you lose by 39 points at home on a running clock.

JSerra can’t score on even a decent team and Bosco exposed their defense. They would lose to De la Salle by many, many points.

Servite lost 42-18 to a Gorman team that De la Salle beat last year, and just lost to Mater Dei by 45 points - it was 42-3 at half and Mater Dei didn’t even score in the 4th quarter. The Bosco game looks like a fluke and Dls would kill Servite, like they have several times already.

Mission has a good defense this year, especially that line and Mascarenas at LB. But they haven’t really played anybody at their level this year haven’t faced anything like DLS or the Spartans’ veer offense. The last team they played of DLS caliber was MD, and we know how their last two matchups with MD have gone.

CDM is a really nice Orange County team, will win the Sunset again, and they’ve scored a lot of points this year, except for that 20 point clunker against PV High. But what Grace Brethren did to them in the D-4 title game is nothing compared to what would happen if they played the Spartans.

De la Salle beat Folsom by 2 TDs, which is their smallest margin of victory this season, by far. FHS is not at DLS level, but no one in the state is other than 2 teams.

Folsom has won every other game by 27 points or more, most of them by much more than that, with the exception of a close rivalry win over Oak Ridge. They may not be scoring 90 points like the Jake Browning era, but they look bound for another state title game.

Folsom hasn’t had any common opponents with the teams you named. Which of those teams do you think would even beat Folsom, let alone the Spartans? Please say Servite or JSerra

Folsom needs to prove it by upgrading it's schedule. One DLS a year doesn't cut it.

so what your saying is, MD was already luring plenty of kids from the LB area before Rollo blew up the program? Anyway, for those who weren't aware of what I was saying earlier, the damage that the LBUSD has done to Poly, reason why I was saying that something like that won't ever happen to MD/Bosco, is since they are private schools, they don't have attendance boundaries or district boundary lines, which public schools have.

Takes a LOT of built in Mater Dei hate to get THAT out of “Servite and Bosco recruit a lot more from LBC” not sure anyone here is as dedicated to trolling MD as you, keep on trucking kid

You didn’t say that, OutofState did. Quit claiming his takes and start a Poly Jackrabbits thread if you want to cry and commiserate about their troubles

I hate to introduce facts into a thread that's all about oneupmanship, but sometimes I can't help myself.

In the last 15 years, Mater Dei has had exactly seven players from the Long Beach area:

WR/DB Andrew Abbott
LB Kessler Armbruster
DB Xavier Bell (who moved to Long Beach from Costa Mesa)
WR C.J. Parks
RB Shakobe Harper
OL Tai Marks
OL Kamuta Levasa

That's it. Long Beach has never been a real source of Mater Dei players.

Thanks for the much appreciated reminder of what adult commentary looks like. Don't be such a stranger

Isn’t that one of the required questions when signing up for a username? Lol

Spartans beat San Ramon Valley High tonight, 52-0 BIG YAWN

Regular season finale next week v Clayton Valley, then their annual bye in the NCS playoffs before destroying whoever stands in their way in NorCal

as for back to topic, I can see DLS getting their swagger back before LB Poly does, that's for sure, same with Los Al.
