Speaking of JJ, he’s made such a turn around from the beginning of the season to now. Well on his way to making it back and getting back into the booth with Peter Arbogast and doing high achool when it allows.
MD takes over at the 40 or so, hands off to Craig who runs for 20 on the first play.
2 plays later Levasa is injured on a running play and exits the game. That’s not good, the only thing they don’t want. Walks off at least.
On 3rd down, Bryce Young is sacked for what feels like the first time all season, by very talented junior SM DL Derrick Wilkins.
MD kicks a FG (didn’t think I’d type that tonight), and Mahlum makes about a 30 yarder.
3-0 MD 7:21 left 1Q
Then another First Down completion over the middle, followed by a diving catch by Ian Grogan to the 10. An incompletion, followed by two runs down to the 2 brings up 4th and goal and the FG unit. Kick is blocked by several MD kids.
3-0 MD, 4:01 left, 1st down at the SM 12
Next play is another rocket to Dixon across midfield to the SM 46. Timeout MD.
Bryce scramble for 11, then a bubble screen to Epps to the right. Great play call mix by Dave Money. Monarchs 1st down at the 16
Kamuta Levasa back in the game.
Yetts takes handoff and runs in untouched down the sideline for a 16 yard TD.
78 yard drive. 9 plays, 2:05. That was easy
MD 10 SM 0, 1:56 left 1Q
Some kind of penalty that the announcer doesn’t explain moves SM out to the 35. 2 incompletions, including a blow up hit across the middle by Neeley, lead to a 3rd down where Fulton is chased out of the pocket by Tupe and Narayan and heaves it to the MD sideline.
SM punt out to midfield. 1m left 1Q
BY completion to KWH out to the 35 called back due to holding.
Two BY completions including first down to Ware Hudson to the 38. Short carry by Yetts leads to quarter break. MD up 10-0
Bryce hits Quincy Craig, under pressure, late in the play on a crossing route, Craig cuts back, gets behind great downfield blocking and strolls in for a 32 yard TD.
Even when you blitz MD, the line picks it up with ease, Bryce looks right past it and guts you. What’s it got to be like for D Coordinators watching this film. Good luck Chris King, praying for you bro lol
11:40 left 2Q, 17-0 MD.
Nevada commit Nic Barcelos bangs out for 5 on second down.
On 3rd down, Fulton scrambles for about 6 and a first down.
Tyler Wetmore catches a slant out past midfield to the MD 40. Michael Buckley then catches short pass, shrugs off Tupe downfield, and runs down to the 25. 1st down.
Barcelos then stuffed by Kobah Fuamatu and Tupe for a 2 yard loss. Tupe has been playing well. Wetmore on 2nd down catches another ball in front of Jackson. 3rd and 5 Fulton blitzed and rushed into an incompletion.
Eagles go for it from the 20, after a timeout.
Wetmore is locked up by Domani Jackson and pass is incomplete. Great man to man coverage, on an island in a tough situation. Jackson has been out in so many tough situations this year, gives up some plays but is a great cover guy, especially for a sophomore
MD takes over at the 20 with 7:28 left 1st half. 17-0 Monarchs
After Bryce misses a wide open KWH down the SM sideline for a touchdown and instead targets Dixon on the left side for an incompletion (rare miss), he scrambles for a first down to the 20, with RT Marks PANCAKING an SM pass rusher.
Two plays later from the 15, BY audibles at the LOS, hits KWH on an out route, KWH dives in for a TD.
Mahlum another good PAT, MD up 24-0 3:54 left in half.
Tipped pass on 3rd down caught by Wetmore, tackled immediately by Davies. Timeout MD. 2:20 left.
SM going for it on 4th down, Rey Leutele leads a bunch of kids in to sack Fulton easily within a second. Great scheme call by Eric Johnson.
Monarch ball at the 43 with 2:14 left.
A few plays later, Dave Money makes the same call, or Bryce calls it himself, pulls the handoff back and keeps it this time, and walks in for a 4 yard TD with no defenders near.
31-0 MD 1:06 left 1st half.
31-0 at half. Monarchs offensive starters might a few drives here, then get ready for Super Trinity Bowl 2019
Bigger development on the play is Kamuta Mook Levasa (who returned to play the second half) gets into a fight with some little lineman from SM (#59), gets called for throwing a punch on the offsetting penalties, and GETS EJECTED. Looks like even if he isn’t injured, the starting OLineman could miss the Bosco game next week for that dumb exchange.
Next play, BY lofts a perfect pass up the seam to Epps for a 45 yard TD, beautiful throw. That’s not a routine throw and not a routine coverage to shred. Bryce makes it look easy when it’s not.
Monarchs lead 38-0 8m left 3Q
2m left 3Q, 38-0 MD.
