Since Bruce Rollinson and Dave Money arrived at Mater Dei in 1989, these are their starting quarterbacks and where they went on to play in college. NOBODY in the country has a better record.

Thanks DAD!
I knew someone would come through with the list.
As a side note, I had the distinct displeasure of being victimized (or more accurately, my Edison Corner Josh Minn) by the great Danny O’Neill and Tony Peña as they executed a perfect post-corner TD connection to seal Rollo’s very first victory as HC of MD. Much to Rollo’s chagrin they were still in silver helmets. And, If I’m not mistaken, he was 0-3 going into that game and the jury was still out. Wasn’t for long though. Can’t remember how MD finished that year. We lost to FoHi (Bruich, the Sylvester Brothers and a 21 year old RB, Samita Voifi) in a Semi-Final down-to-the-wire Classic.
Those were the days.

I had forgotten all about that travesty...:puke: Who was responsible for those anyway, Carr, Cochrun or Gallo?

Gallo changed the helmets to the silver with a lion on the sides.

Actually it was MD on the sides if I remember correctly. The stripes were red on white also. Having played under Cochrun I liked the school seal on the side with the current helmet....

In ‘89 it was the MD on the helmet. And yes, I believe Rollo (re)added the 3 stripes upon his arrival. If my memory serves, the pants were silver as well. I always thought they were good looking unis... until I was educated on MD FB history.

Incorrect. I don't have a horse in the race, but in the interest of accurate history, I pulled out my old newspaper clippings, neatly stored within the homecoming issues from each season.

The '73 season, under Gary Carr...the three stripes were still on the helmets. The silver helmets with the lion appeared in '74 ...Gary Carr's 2nd season.

Hope that helps.

all of them being D-1 colleges right? I wonder which H.S. in California, should be considered second place for sending their QB's to elite colleges, second place to MD. Los Al during the glory years for them had some pretty awesome QB's, so has Hart of Newhall.

I would love to see a picture of the helmet if you can post.....

Can't speak for the early 70s but the question was the Gallo helmet before Rollo which is this. I copied Ramon's picture (sorry for the big pictures but can't figure out how to shrink):

MDGuy,

Here is a photo of the 1974 MD helmet with the lion on it. Sorry for the lack of quality, but it's from an old newspaper clipping, and my computer skills are not great. It is a picture of MD QB Jim Wigmore. I don't remember if the helmets were silver, or gold. At least one stripe down the middle (or possibly an inch stripe sandwiched between two thinner stripes). 1975 helmets appear to be the same.

The three stripes were back by 1978 at the latest. (I don't have any photos from '76 or '77). I can't tell if the seal also appeared by '78, or not, and I have no photos from '79, but the seal was there at least by '80.

I was an eyewitness, but my memory is fuzzy...old age. I had thought those silver helmets were brought in by Carr, but wasn't sure.

Jim Wigmore? Haven't heard that name in years, that guy was a god to me. He led the only Monarch team to survive the Amat (win) / St. Paul (tie) gantlet without a loss. Despite those ugly helmets...

San Clemente is right there with MD the past 15 or so years. No one else in CA is close. I would imagine Lake Travis in Austin, Texas is by far the best if you look at who starts a game in the NFL.

Sound advice to stay put (generally), unless there's a relationship that exists somewhere (usually is)...not much to be found on Money (web). Several good OC's out there. Can't see the USC staff having final bearing if the O/C is the real developer. Would be interesting to discover how many QBs who transferred "anywhere" (across town or States) who improved their success vs failure.

how long has Lake Travis in Texas been a QB factory that sends their QB's to D-1 Colleges or the NFL? they have sent more than MD has under Rollo right?

If there is any indication from all the talk before (tailgate), during and after the game on the MD side maybe had the focus been on the present and task at hand the end result would have been different. "Talk about" not living in the moment.... when assuring the future outcome is top priority.

Yeah, their fans' supposed 'lack of focus' is what lost them the game...WTF?
