A world without sports

Post by watchersince68 » Fri Mar 13, 2020 9:03 am

Never in my imagination would I have ever thought there might not be a high school sports season.
Playoffs cancelled, new season starts in jeopardy, kids home schooling. It is going to be a interesting year.
We here in the OC maybe healthier than usual for this time of year because everyone is being so cautious.
Here is for hoping we get to our kids play this coming year.

This is really going to test my marriage and family. We are all stuck at home together from work and school. We are going to drive each other crazy! :bonk:

Outofstate or your mind
We will soon know what it was like in the days before TV and radio, you had to talk with your loved ones.
Sounds scary huh?

So, for the sports version of this topic - What's ESPN going to do? Back to tractor pulls and Australian rules football reruns?

They obviously have no idea, these endless interviews and panels of people all talking about the same thing is getting old fast

Lumberjack Olympics! ESPN was great back before they started getting big contracts and they covered all the bizarre sports you didn't even know were sports.

On a related note. A friend had a cat throw up and he didn't get to it before his Roomba.

Get back to surfing......

ABC (Wide World of Sports) led the charge in covering surfing "LIVE" starting in HB in the early 60's, they found their way to the North Shore of Oahu and eventually went on to broadcast the "PIPE MASTERS" at the famous Bonzai Pipeline in 1971. In 1983, ESPN televised their first event and in '87 signed onto a three year deal as the surf culture world exploded....

Today most surfing is easily caught around the globe through live streaming as the sport has massive global participation and appeal. It is also extremely costly to produce due to travel, yet more so mother nature, in which most big contests hold a 14 day window for an event.

I do wish they would revisit the idea, as today's camera work with aerial and drone, underwater and digital effects, is such a powerful visual and even more so the skill, the condition of these athletes is stellar and the risk of life beyond real.

2019: Esports aren't real sports!

2020: Esports are the ONLY sports!

I actually watched about 20 minutes of live eNascar last night.

Oh man! We're losing him, Doctor!

Be strong, Crayegg! Dig deep! Go for a walk. Do something around the house. Fix that toilet seat you've been meaning to get to. Oh wait. That's me. Er, we'll get through this.

That's easy, it was a 9-to-1 gambit. There are two kinds of househusbands in the world: Those who need to fix the toilet seat (9), and those who just did (1)

I can't think of a worse idea than for Tokyo to insist on holding the Olympics on schedule in the face of what's happening...incredibly selfish and irresponsible. Luckily, it's increasingly looking like the decision is going to be taken out of their hands
