Energy problem solved?

Post by kramer » Tue Jan 25, 2011 2:13 pm

Remember cold fusion? A couple of scientists say they got something similar that works.

From Physorg:
Despite the intense skepticism, a small community of scientists is still investigating near-room-temperature fusion reactions. The latest news occurred last week, when Italian scientists Andrea Rossi and Sergio Focardi of the University of Bologna announced that they developed a cold fusion device capable of producing 12,400 W of heat power with an input of just 400 W. Last Friday, the scientists held a private invitation press conference in Bologna, attended by about 50 people, where they demonstrated what they claim is a nickel-hydrogen fusion reactor. Further, the scientists say that the reactor is well beyond the research phase; they plan to start shipping commercial devices within the next three months and start mass production by the end of 2011.
“We should have been warned by the CFC/ozone affair because the corruption of science in that was so bad that something like 80% of the measurements being made during that time were either faked, or incompetently done.”

Andrea Rossi and Sergio Focardi following Pons and Fleischmann's footprints into ignominy.

I'm sure they're wearing more stylish shoes, though, being Italian and all.

It's possible. But if there was a hint of quackery here, I doubt physorg would have written an article about it.

Italian Cold Fusion Machine Passes Another Test
http://www.livescience.com/16864-italia ... -test.html
Italian physicist and inventor Andrea Rossi has conducted a public demonstration of his "cold fusion" machine, the E-Cat, at the University of Bologna, showing that a small amount of input energy drives an unexplained reaction between atoms of hydrogen and nickel that leads to a large outpouring of energy, more than 10 times what was put in.
Interestingly, there are quite a few comments from skeptics in this article. Personally, I find it hard to believe this guy would go through all this grandiose trouble in order to discredit and make an ass out of himself.
