Italy's instituting regional travel bans, Donald's holding MAGA rallies and looking for scapegoats. And playing golf, of course.

Well, this is interesting. Rachel Figueroa, whose alter-ego is Twitter star Miguel Bloombito was told to self-quarantine.

By Vatican News

The Holy See Press Office issued a statement on Saturday afternoon, announcing that “With regard to the events of the coming days, the prayer of the Angelus of the Holy Father on Sunday 8 March will take place from the Library of the Apostolic Palace and not in the Square, from the window. The prayer will be streamed live by Vatican News and on screens in St. Peter's Square, and distributed by Vatican Media to the media who request it, so as to allow the participation of the faithful. The General Audience on Wednesday, March 11 will be held in the same manner”.

At least our state government is paying attention. From their "Guidance for Schools, Colleges & Large Public Events":
“It’s a question of when – not if – some California public schools will face closure because of COVID-19. School districts must prepare for these scenarios so that parents and children can plan for what would happen if their local school faced closure,” said Governor Gavin Newsom.

“It’s also not lost on anyone that these scenarios would put significant stress on families– especially those with the least financial resources. Already, we are seeing how this outbreak is having significant economic impact on families, workers, businesses and communities across California. The state of California is working around the clock to help shoulder the burden that Californians are facing during this crisis. We really are all in this together,” added Newsom.

https://www.cdph.ca.gov/Programs/OPA/Pa ... 0-014.aspx
And from their "Guidance for Schools" document:
Scenario III: Measures to be taken if one student, teacher or staff member tests
positive for COVID-19 and exposed others at the school.

If one student, teacher or staff member tests positive for COVID-19 and exposed others
at the school, CDPH recommends that school administrators implement the following
steps:
• In consultation with the local public health department, the appropriate school
official may consider if school closure is warranted and length of time based on the
risk level within the specific community as determined by the local public health
officer.
• In consultation with the local public health department, school officials may
determine readmission criteria after the school closures.
• Implement communication plans for school closure to include outreach to students,
parents, teachers, staff, and the community.
o Include information for parents regarding labor laws, information regarding
Disability Insurance, Paid Family Leave, and Unemployment Insurance.
o California Labor and Workforce Development Guidance:

1. Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) Resources for Employers and Workers
2. The California Employment Development Department’s
Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) web page

o California Labor Commissioner’s Office FAQs

And it goes on to scenario IV, multiple schools.

Nothing yet about an Italian-style shut-down but I wouldn't be surprised if they're discussing it.

So, does being a Republican cause you to only think in single steps or does only thinking in single steps cause you to be a Republican?

According to Twitter chemists, mixing ethanol and bleach will give you chloroform, so it's probably best to mix the peroxide and bleach first so you only get an explosion when the alcohol is added.

The correction isn't much better.

He should have kept wearing his mask.

Gaetz was on board Air Force One with President Donald Trump shortly before revealing his situation.

Wait... I thought you had to exhibit symptoms before you could be tested. Don't we have a shortage of kits?

LMAO that Congressman Gasmask is having to self-quarantine. But if the test (I guess he knew somebody) comes back negative, it might only be his first.

Seems to me that the only halfway effective method would be mass quarantining ala Italy, although I have no idea how we'd ever pay for it. Or pull it off at all, really.

The industry estimate, since nobody can get one from the government, is 8 weeks - sometime in May - before they'll have enough test kits for us peons to be tested, even if we're sick.

When a no-brainer is the only smart response you've seen.

From the Washington Post:

Pence says health insurers have agreed to the following for coronavirus testing and treatment:

-Waive copays
-Extend coverage on all plans
-Cover telemedicine
-No surprise billing

Medicare, Medicaid will also cover coronavirus testing and treatment.

NY Gov. Cuomo calls out National Guard to close down the town of New Rochelle. Kind of like the ghettos of Poland 1940. The very large Jewish population in New Rochelle will not take this well.

A graph from South Korea. New cases are way down and total cases is at the very least bending. Whatever they're doing seems to be working.

Just curious on this.... Will it change the way we do business? Schools are cancelling classes and moving to online, some businesses are letting those who can work from home, business travel is way down and meetings are being held online, and I'd imagine online shopping has seen a boost. Wondering if this disease will have a long-term effect - especially considering that we don't know if it's going to be seasonal or not. There's a chance things might not get back to normal until there's a vaccine for it.

Imagine the gushing forth of contemptuous outrage on the right if this involved Nancy Pelosi or AOC...

Trump Allies Got Coronavirus Tests Despite Lack Of Symptoms And Shortage

Two close congressional allies of President Trump underwent coronavirus testing in recent days in apparent defiance of federal recommendations reserving those tests for patients exhibiting symptoms of infection — and amid growing concerns about the availability of testing for Americans who are sick.

The two lawmakers...Reps. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) and Mark Meadows (R-N.C.)...said they were exhibiting no symptoms of respiratory illness, raising questions of why they were tested at all.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that health-care providers prioritize tests for hospitalized patients who are exhibiting coronavirus symptoms, elderly and medically fragile individuals, along with others who have shown signs of illness after contact with a known or suspected coronavirus patient.
