I needed a part for my weedeater. Found it on Home Depot's site. It took me 4 hours of saying "Why am I doing this? It's only 2 miles away" and one firm "Don't go" from FB to hit the Order button. The lawn can wait till Thursday.

I don't know about OC but LA County Sheriff Alex Villanueva has finally declared gun stores non-essential.

But I guess guns can be important social distancing tools. Or maybe not
The suspect, who was identified by Channel 2 Action News as 75-year-old Harvey Joel Taratoot, pointed a gun at a woman and her adult granddaughter at the post office on Webb Bridge Road on Sunday, the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety said in a Facebook post.

When officers arrived at the scene, Taratoot had left. The women told police they were both wearing medical masks and gloves when they entered the post office before they were confronted by the gun-wielding man.

He pointed the gun at them and yelled at them to get back, the women told police. The suspect then left the building and drove away.

Trump Wants An Early Return To Work. Hong Kong Tried This And Now Has A Second Wave Of Cases

Hong Kong appeared to have the coronavirus under control, then it let its guard down

This week, the city sent civil servants back home after they returned to their offices around the start of the month. Numbers had been stable in Hong Kong when that decision was made, but imported infections combined with a lack of social distancing soon led to a new wave of local cases.

Only a week ago, Hong Kong seemed like a model for how to contain the novel coronavirus, with a relatively small number of cases despite months of being on the front lines of the outbreak.

Now, however, Hong Kong is providing a very different object lesson -- what happens when you let your guard down too soon. The number of confirmed cases has almost doubled in the past week, with many imported from overseas, as Hong Kong residents who had left -- either to work or study abroad, or to seek safety when the city seemed destined for a major outbreak earlier this year -- return, bringing the virus back with them.

On Monday, Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam announced that all non-residents would be barred from the territory as of Wednesday, the latest addition to a raft of new measures.

Duh. I figured out why Easter.

These people. Easter to them is like Christmas is to Walmart. Mega-mansions and private jets don't pay for themselves, ya know.

Speaking of NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo...

Remember this guy?
"No one reached out to me and said, 'As a senior citizen, are you willing to take a chance on your survival in exchange for keeping the America that all America loves for your children and grandchildren?' And if that is the exchange, I'm all in."
Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick of Texas

Cuomo's response:
“My mother’s not expendable,” Mr. Cuomo said, adding, “We’re not going to accept a premise that human life is disposable. And we’re not going to put a dollar figure on human life.”
=D>

Anyone else watching his daily briefings? I'm liking this guy more and more...

Even the preening windbag knows enough not to compete with him:

Even President Trump has taken notice: His team has scheduled his appearances in the afternoon so as not to interfere with Mr. Cuomo’s briefings, including on Tuesday, when the president’s town hall event on Fox News began after the governor’s briefing ended.

“He represents the kind of leadership we should have in the presidency and don’t,” said Representative Jackie Speier, a California Democrat who said her West Coast constituents are praising Mr. Cuomo. “His stock has gone way up.”

I agree with that last comment...it may be too late this year but it looks like Dems may have their candidate in 2024...

White House, Senate Reach Historic $2 Trillion Stimulus Deal Amid Growing Coronavirus Fears

Under the plan as it was being negotiated, individuals who earn $75,000 in adjusted gross income or less would get direct payments of $1,200 each, with married couples earning up to $150,000 receiving $2,400 -- and an additional $500 per each child. The payment would scale down by income, phasing out entirely at $99,000 for singles and $198,000 for couples without children.

Negotiators also discussed providing four months of unemployment benefits, extending to self-employed workers.

The stimulus bill also has a provision that would block President Donald Trump and his family, as well as other top government officials and members of Congress, from getting loans or investments from Treasury programs in the stimulus..

Happy they reached an agreement but I'll wait for the details before I form an opinion.

What I'm wondering about, though, is the "we're all Keynesians now" nature of it and how that will play out for Republicans in November and beyond.

Remembering back in 2009 we were being told that it was wrong for the government to pick "winners" and "losers." That the mythical "free market" should decide.

I guess we are passed that now.

Continuing to prove that Trump has shown that it was never about taxes, spending, or deficits with the Tea Party.

Best quote for the times.
The virus doesn't move, people move it. We stop moving, the virus stops moving, the virus dies. It's that simple.

Missippi trying to out-Bama Bama.
Gov. Tate Reeves signed an executive order early this evening superseding a patchwork of local bans on public gatherings in Mississippi and other heightened restrictions that several municipalities across the state have ordered or considered in the wake of COVID-19’s spread inside Mississippi. The state reached 320 official cases today, up 300 percent since 80 known cases on Friday.

The order seems to declare that most types of businesses in Mississippi are "essential" and thus exempt from social-distancing requirements suggested in the order. "The uninterrupted delivery of essential services and functions is vital to infrastructure viability, critical to maintain continuity of functions critical to public health and safety, as well as economic and national security, and is crucial to community resilience, continuity of essential functions and to promote the security and safety of Mississippi residents even as the nation limits human interaction and engages in social distancing," the order stated.

They're voting as I type this, but not before a few choice words from Bernie...

Sanders Rips Into GOP Senators

Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders lambasted Republican senators who had supported Sasse's amendment over concerns that the bill's provisions would incentivize unemployment.

"What happened is Sen. (Lindsey) Graham and some other Republicans, they are just terribly upset that low-income workers might receive a bit more money than they otherwise would have earned," Sanders told CNN, before the chamber voted on the bill.

"Here we are in the midst of the worst economic downturn perhaps since the Great Depression, tens of millions of people are worried to death about how they're going to feed their families, pay their rent, prevent a foreclosure," Sanders added. "And these guys are just staying up nights worrying about low-income workers getting a few bucks more."

=D>

These are the same guys that shoved through a huge tax break for the wealthy...

Soon after that the amendment got voted down

Article in the Pasadena Star-News says that there's a considerable number of people who may have already had COVID-19 as far back as December, before it got much press and before the symptoms became widely known. And interestingly, they all seem to have recovered. Or maybe it's just that if any died they weren't diagnosed with it. I'm sort of wondering if I might have had a very mild version of it. Of course it might have only been a flu, but the difficulty breathing this time was very different from times I've had it in the past. The only thing missing is a wide-spread outbreak. But maybe there was one and we just didn't know it. And there's no antibody test yet, so there's no way of knowing. And the jury's still out on whether or not you can get it twice.
There’s a very real chance that some Southern Californians who had dry coughs, fevers and other symptoms of the coronavirus as far back as December might have already recovered from the disease, according to both Brandon Brown, a public health professor at UC Riverside who specializes in infectious diseases, and Dr. Robert Kim-Farley, an epidemiology professor at UCLA.

If people did beat the virus, both experts said there’s a chance those patients can’t get it again or spread it to others. That, in turn, means those people might be able to start to return to their usual routines sooner rather than later.

Now for the bad news.

Most people don’t know if they actually had the coronavirus because they haven’t been tested, and there isn’t a test available yet that can tell if someone already recovered from the disease. Even if they did get a coronavirus test, or an antibody test to show a past infection, scientists don’t yet know for sure if beating novel coronavirus once means long-term immunity. And assuming otherwise could expose more vulnerable people to a potentially fatal disease and extend the pandemic.
