Anybody going to be watching the State of the Union Address?
Re: Anybody going to be watching the State of the Union Address?
Read the ratings were trending like last year. Was pleasantly surprised to see 43% Democrat approval, but 72% Independent approval was very surprising for a guy with such low job approval ratings coming into the SOTU.
Some of the hard line conservatives are calling him a sellout for the path to citizenship compromise. I'm hopeful it'll get worked out.

Why should she risk having to pay back the $130,000 now?Professor Fate wrote:Breaking news. Amid publicity tour, porn star denies affair with Trump.
Her lawyer has confirmed it.

After all, her interviews where she described her affair with Trump was long before the payoff. Nothing to be done about that.

Breakinger news. Amid pubilcity tour, porn star denies her denial.

Seriously, the interview makes it pretty clear she's got a NDA with trump about this incident.

I had an affair with Trump, no wait, I didn't have an affair with Trump, no wait, I did have an affair with Trump. This is a woman who spreads her legs for the cameras and the money. Why would anyone on either side place any faith or credibility in what she has to say?

I read those last two sentences and couldn't help thinking how perfectly they apply to the other party in this equation as well

I think it’s more about hypocrisy over triggers when the right supports all these things on the surface while supporting Trump... who...Tommy Tar wrote:Cops, Family, Flag, National Anthem, the Military, God..: All Dem triggers.
..Family: Has 5 kids from 3 marriages and has admitted to sexual assault.
..Flag: Something to wave to make him look patriotic.
..National Anthem: He seems to not know the words to.
..Military: “bone spurs”
..God: Refer to “Family”.
Re: Anybody going to be watching the State of the Union Address?
Well the liberal, tabloid gossip rag known as The Wall Street Journal ran a story about a $130,000 payment made by one of trumps lawyers to Ms. Daniels. Presumably they did some research and didn't rely on her veracity or abilities with her legs. I suppose you could just question her trustworthiness because she's a porn star after all...but that might seem a bit parochial.
Of course, you can choose to give trump the benefit of the doubt, but please forgive those who aren't quite so...charitable.

Re: Anybody going to be watching the State of the Union Address?
I've never in my life given Trump the benefit of the doubt. But to blindly believe the words of a porn star seems a little self-serving.
And I'm fascinated by the fact that you capitalize "Ms. Daniels" but not "trump". I'm sure that says nothing about your biases.

Re: Anybody going to be watching the State of the Union Address?
Let me try this again. I don't believe any words Ms. Daniels has said because I don't know any of those words. I believe the story run by the WSJ which details a payment made by trump to Ms Daniels. I fail to see how that could be "self-serving" on my part as I have no interest beyond the abstract in this matter.
As to my capitalization habits...since trump was elected I have not capitalized his name on this forum, nor have I capitalized his title. I will continue this habit out of disrespect for the man, and respect for the office which he defiles.
Why would you say that? Absolutely I'm biased against trump. I have no respect for trump or the morons who voted for him for whatever reason. His presence in the Oval Office is a national embarrassment, period.I'm sure that says nothing about your biases.

Good poll question - "Who do you find more credible, Donald or a porn star?"
I don't know much about the porn star but I've listened to Donald a few times. I think I'd have to go with the porn star.

Re: Anybody going to be watching the State of the Union Address?
Trump stretched the truth/exaggerated/lied so much last night anyone shouting out "You lie!" would have got laryngitis:
we enacted the biggest tax cuts and reforms in American history - lie
we are finally seeing rising wages - lie
Our tax cuts provide tremendous relief for the middle class and small businesses - lie
over 3 million workers have gotten tax cut bonuses — many of them thousands and thousands of dollars - lie
the visa lottery randomly hands out green cards without any regard for skill, merit, or the safety of American people - lie
Under the current system a single immigrant can bring in virtually unlimited numbers of distant relatives - lie
we have released hundreds and hundreds of dangerous terrorists, only to meet them again on the battlefield - lie
it can now take 10 years just to get a permit approved for a simple road - lie
Chrysler is moving a major plant from Mexico to Michigan - lie
We are now an exporter of energy to the world - lie
Apple has just announced it plans to invest a total of $350 billion in America - lie
changes in the business tax rate are estimated to increase average family income by more than $4,000 - lie

Re: Anybody going to be watching the State of the Union Address?
Wow! many of those lies aren't lies at all.
He said "virtually" about the unlimited relatives a single immigrant can bring in.
The Fiat Chrysler plant is moving.
We do export energy to the world. I was a part of that before I retired.
Apple did announce they were planning to spend $350 billion over the next five years. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles ... iated-cash
Without going over the rest of them, I will say that some of them are true, but exaggerated. And others are undetermined yet.

His speech lasted about 80 minutes. I read the transcript. It reads well and it didn't take 80 minutes. I read that he received over 100 standing ovations. More than one a minute.
It's one of the many reasons I rarely watch a speech. Much more time efficient to read what was said.

Re: Anybody going to be watching the State of the Union Address?
An immigrant can only "bring in" direct family. The Foreign Babe can't bring in her niece. Which kinda sucks.
The Fiat-Chrysler plant isn't going anywhere. It's remaining open.
Yes, we do export energy but it was my understanding that he said we were a net exporter, which we aren't.
The $350 billion number was total economic impact. Apple's spending is a fraction of that.
Omar's post was pretty much correct.

I guess if the Fiat plant isn't put on a gooseneck trailer, and driven to Michigan then I guess you're right.

Re: Anybody going to be watching the State of the Union Address?
Here's a heads up for you, snickerboy - if you say something that's not true, it's a lie. If the truth is really on your side you don't have to exaggerate, say it was "tongue in cheek" or cross your fingers behind your back...
we enacted the biggest tax cuts and reforms in American history - Huuge, easily verifiable lie...both of Obama's and one of Reagan's were not only bigger, they were muchly bigger
we are finally seeing rising wages - Another whopper. Wages rose under Obama and are actually lower now than when Trump took over
Our tax cuts provide tremendous relief for the middle class and small businesses - Middle class tax savings work out to a little over $900 a year while top earners/corporations will get tens of thousands/millions in breaks
over 3 million workers have gotten tax cut bonuses — many of them thousands and thousands of dollars - Most of those bonuses have nothing to do with the tax cut, and very few of them will get "thousands and thousands" of dollars
the visa lottery randomly hands out green cards without any regard for skill, merit, or the safety of American people - complete, utter fiction. They must all meet strict education and work experience requirements and be vetted by DHS for security. Easily verifiable lie.
Under the current system a single immigrant can bring in virtually unlimited numbers of distant relatives - Shameless lie. Neither U.S. citizens nor lawful permanent residents can file a visa petition for a distant relative, let alone "unlimited numbers".
we have released hundreds and hundreds of dangerous terrorists, only to meet them again on the battlefield - A total of 122 detainees, many of them incidentally or mistakenly detained, have been released from Guantanamo. Trump has no idea how many, if any at all, were "dangerous terrorists" or how many went back into battle. Lie.
it can now take 10 years just to get a permit approved for a simple road - Studies say typical permit approval time ranges from 4 to 6 years...that seems too long as is, doesn't it? Why the need to lie about it?
Chrysler is moving a major plant from Mexico to Michigan - No it isn't. Easily verifiable lie.
We are now an exporter of energy to the world - No we aren't. He just makes this stuff up as he goes along. The US is a net energy importer.
Apple has just announced it plans to invest a total of $350 billion in America - the majority of that $350 billion will go towards Apple's cost of doing business, not new investment.
changes in the business tax rate are estimated to increase average family income by more than $4,000 - He took the rosiest of estimates, that of his own Council of Economic Advisers. Their number is far higher than consensus estimates of economists that don't have to grovel before Him.
